there's no reason to make them feel like they don't even know their own territory, and some other punk from elswhere does.

Dude.

I know your territory better than you do.

That's why you asked the question and heck yeah that is the response I gave you.

PA is full of rock. Too bad it is mostly chossy and slabby. The little overhangs you have there are severely undergraded and there were rare gems of aesthetic bolder problems... but man, after climbing at Hueco for a season you'd understand. PA sucks.

So go to the gunks.

Yes dipwit, the gunks. 3 hours north. There is BOLDERING there, duh. Big up, hello ?!?!?

http://www.newenglandbouldering.com/...s/newyork/andrew.jpg

And, to be fair, you didn't ask for an afterwork destination, you asked for a weekend destination with good camping, and new york is having a really nice spring right now. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa.

So yeah... the Gunks or even Niagara Glen, yeah... CANADA. Punk !!!!!1

Why, cause I didn't start this forum topic.

Ok, but you are the one disparaging my good advice.

Milo asked for a weekend spot and you send him somewhere close.

He asked for something good and you are sending him to places that suck.

I've been to 4 boldering areas in PA.

They all blow.

If you want quality rock and live in Pittsburgh, you might as well drive to the Gunks, because the quality of the boldering there (which you didn't realize even eixsted, gansccr) is TERIFFIC.

SWPA has some bouldering (McConnel's Mill's been mentioned) but if you are coming from MD you are going to be practically driving through Cooper's Rock which has some stellar bouldering. There is decent TR and sport stuff around SWPA but nothing that's good enough for camping and climbing... The stables would be good though I hear - http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/listArea.php?AreaID=2293

have a good one.

The stables is NASTY.

If you are in MD go to North Carolina.

It's GNEISS.

Hey Lox are you trying to impress us with a picture of the Andrew boulder? That a 30 year old problem, show us something new! There is way better bouldering than that in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area.

No.

I was trying to show the guy who thought there was only trad climbing at the Gunks that there is actually really classic boldering to be done at the Gunks.

My point was that there is a lot of oldskool boldering there.

Even the Gill Egg.

Thanks for reinforcing that point, old man... gansccr, are you paying attention ?!?!?

And Scranton has nothing on SouthConn, baby... YEAH !!!! GNEISS !°!!"!°"°!!!!!!!!!111

Ok, before I respond to your post I really need you to clarify a couple of things for me.

First:

In reply to:
Now coming from MD, I only thought it in good sense, not to send the poor man, another 3 hours to NY just to go bouldering. Especially if he is coming from SWPA, you're looking at almost 5 hrs.

If one were living in MD, why would you go to SWPA to get to the Gunks ?!?!

He was wondering about PA climbing. I suggested that the Gunks would be better, thinking he was IN pa. But, if he's in MD and has to drive, then it's like 4.5 hours to SWPA or 5 hours to the Gunks. Go to the Gunks.

But, like I said... if he's in MD, he might as well go to NC.

Are you not keeping all this straight in your head, while accusing me of "not doing my homework" and shit ?!?!

Look, Gretna and the Stables are good for a day or two, but not at all good on the absolute scale of boldering areas.

If you are going to drive 4 hours, you might as well make the northward push out of the CHOSSZONE and into downstate NY.

Secondly:

In reply to:
I mean I can go to the Gunks, and find the best trad route there, and decide only to boulder around on it. Or in your "proffesional opinion" is that not considerd bouldering?

There are lots of established bolder problems at the Gunks which are not at all related to the bottom 20 feet of a trad route.

Have you not heard of the Buddah ?!?!

Do you not know of Boxcar Arete !?!?!

The Gill Egg ? Pat's Pinch ? Winter's Agony ?!?!?

Obviously you are not qualified to speak to the subject upon which you are. have you been to Gretna ? The Stables ?!!? The Gunks ?!?!?

Cuz if you have not been to these places, I will stop talking and let you think you have "won" in whatever perverse way makes you happy.

Gansscr, NEPA (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area) has excellent bouldering on par with anything the "Gunks" has to offer. Lox just doesn't know where it is!

HA !

The quality is nowhere NEAR that of Putnam County Gneiss or the Gunks.

You should give a crap about my opinion of boldering... all I care about is steep aesthetics and highball goodness.

The craptasticness of all things PA never fails to amuse me.

What is the same rock as the gunks ?!?!?!

Governor's Stables & Gretna are diabase. Putnam County is gneiss. The gunks is metaorphic sandstone. SWPA is sandstone.

What the heck are you talking about ?!?!?!

The Gunks are quartzite conglomerate overlaying Normanskill shale, bonehead.

I was under the impression that the Gunks/Peterskill was a fairly unique area.

But good lord... gniess is xactly that. Why bother with quartzite conglomerate ?!?!?

In reply to:
It is composed of sharply-folded sedimentary rocks, mostly shale, capped with erosion-resistant sandstones and quartz conglomerates, with increasing amounts of limestone on the western slopes along the Delaware River.

http://training.fws.gov/library/pubs5/web_link/text/geolsect.htm

I thought the Gunks was metamorphic sandstone with quartzite crystals in it.

I am not from there. I could be wrong.

I have been there though... the boldering is GOOD.

Well, you are close to being right. Sandstone metamorphises into quartzite, as at the Gunks, Devil's Lake, Blue Mounds and other places. The conglomerate aspect of Shawangunk quartzite conglomerate denotes that chunks of something else are embedded in the matrix. In the case of the gunks, the embedded material is largely quartz.

Hey Milo, with being in MD and looking for areas in SW Pa, go a little further south and check out Coopers Rock if you've never been.
