Does anyone happen to try those two routes (10c & 11a) at Billy Goat Rock lately? It looks like some holds got pulled down for a while..
So what do you think..
The Bridwell Bolt Route is still 10c?
Permanent Erection is still 11a?

Not sure what you mean by 'had holds pulled down'

Do you mean something broke?

I think you have the ratings and name matched up correctly.

yes! especially around 2nd bolt of "The Bridwell Bolt Route". I couldn't find any positive holds there. I think it should be harder than 10c.

Anyway, I'll try both of them again.

didn't a hold on Permanent Erection break back in '97 or '98?

yr'97/'98!? & yr'94!? what a history!!

Need somebody to try them to tell if the "Skyline" guide book reflects the true grade.

Are you up to it!?

Sorry for butting in. I'm a newbie in the bay area. Someone in another post spoke of castle rock. Is this the one by Saratoga, Ca.? If it is, how do I get there from San Francisco?

Thanks, Bernal

Castle Rock is off Skyline (Hwy. 9)
from 85 S. - take the DeAnza turnoff - go right, DeAnza turns into Saratoga- Sunnyvale Road, follow that road through the town of Saratoga, and up into the hills.
when you come to the four-way stop at Hwy.35, turn left, go past the rod and gun club.
it's about a 1/2 mile up the road on your right. Park in the lot and pay $5. or park on either side of the road for free - it's PGE-owned roadway.
be care parking. I've seen cars that roll into the ditch on the side.
there are two excellent guidebooks by Bruce Morris - the Bouldering Guide to CRSP and Climbing Guide.
but it's kind of toast during the summer. either it's too hot, or if you find a shady place the mosquitoes eat you alive. DEET doesn't help, either.

you're right, but we call the Hwy.9 part Skyline as well - and please watch out for the motorcyclists.

Off topic, but is the trail from the main parking lot the only way to get to Goat Rock? The guidbooks says of a way to make it there through the christmas tree farm, but the road is gated off. Is that the right road?

you can go by the Xmas tree farm and then past the interpretative shelter, and down to Goat, but it's much prettier to go into the park itself and walk up from the parking lot.
if you want to hit the Klinghoffers then your Xmas tree route is good. pick up Bruce Morrris' Climbing Guide to CRSP or Bouldering Guide to same (shameless plug)... at your local gym or REI.

Last time we went, the road had a locked gate. Is this gate only open on weekends or is this just the wrong road all together?

But I must agree, the trail to Goat Rock is real nice. My climbing partner has that guide book and I just mooch off of him.
