It really is a miracle, I look at her in wonder and awe...
And thanks too, mom is rebounding great!
Home birth, no drugs, the midwife stood close and let me deliver her myself, the most intense moment of my life!
But as she slid into my arms, hiccuped out the goop and took her first breath ever, my anxiety and fear just disappeared, and some how I knew through my heart and soul I could send this!
I got into climbing somewhat later in life, but as it took me, the discoveries I made about myself were amazing. It is something that can only be known by experience, opening new eyes to finally glimpse the far shore of that gaping bottomless crevass which lies between what my mind tells me my limit is, and what pushing through the fear and pain show me that limit truly is...
It's true I watch and even sometimes join in the mad crowing yap about details and opinions on every aspect of our calling, from gear to the personality tweaks of the latest wonderkind flowing up impossible overhangs or freeing blankly exposed routes. In a way thats part of the fun.
What I hope I can pass on to her though is the truth and friendship I've found through climbing, solid honest people endeavouring to push past their fear, strengthen their weaknesses, and explore and overcome their self inflicted limitations. Taking time to help each other to discover the beauty that lies beneath the ever present and often final danger that frames our world.
