I would like to build my own adjustable climbing wall and came up with this cool idea except I don't know if it can work. the idea is to make an adjustable wall ontop of another adjustable wall, so at the top of the rugular wall you have a hinge ad then that is the base for the second wall. does anyone think this can work or is it to much weight or something? SIDE VIEW I____________/ I / I / I / I / I / I> I______ / I/ I/ I/ I/ I/ I/ I - wall / - plywood __ - chain > - hinge - nothing

As cool as two adjustable panels would be, I dont the ends would justify the means. A friend of mine once created an adjustable wall. One that he could adjust the steepness by lowering the top end on a chain. One problem to consider is that once the wall is lowered, youll need some kind of brace to prevent the wall from being thrown backwards, while your climbing on it.

slavetogravity's right the top half will smack forward...... though i think this might be taking the design too far (i.e. there are better things you can be doing with your time and much easier designs) you can try putting support beams in front of the wall with pins that can be placed in the beams on the back side of the wall to stabilize it...... not sure if that makes sense but here's a redesign of your design.... it might clear things up. hope that helps.... to clarify the top part is going to be 4x3 feet. why do you think the top half would smack forward? I made a small replica that seems to be ok, but it is just that a replica. also do you know how much weight a bolt can take if it is pit in concrete?

when i say smack forward i don't mean it's going to fly forward while you're climbing on it..... more since there's nothing holding it's place it'll feel unstable and shake around and such because of the fact that if you walked up to the wall and pushed it would in fact smack forward...... this is bad for two reasons..... one it will feel unstable while climbing on it and two since it will be shaking quite a bit more than one that would be stabilized, all the points where it's connected will be taking more stress due to exess motion....... i have no clue how much that bolt you're talking about can take but it will be weaker if the wall is less stable due to exess pulling and shaking....... of course the bolt might be strong enough that it wouldn't make a difference either way.
