F***ing up in a way I get my partner hurt or killed. Also, getting myself killed stupidly, like messing up rapping or lowering off a route.

an accident occuring (due to me) that could have been easily avoided... also, hearing the final moans of your injured partner... if you ever see or experience anything horrific block your ears... for the noise leaves a bigger imprint in your mind than an image..

A few things... 1) A Crippling injury 2) My partner getting hurt because of something I did (or didn't do). 3) Failing when I know I could have succeeded. 4) Something happening on the rock that scares me so much, that I never climb again. I'm not sure I could handle my life without climbing as a part of it. Mr. Mons

The greatest fear I have right now is the rope breaking on a sharp edge. That scares me a lot. Other than that, I am not really afraid. Just the rope breaking. stupid rope. next time I think I will climb without it, maybe that will cure my fear!!!!!!!

ill have to second the vote for disabling back injuries, who would lay a humpback? and coming in a quick second would have to be causing an injury to my partner.

today my worst fear is that my last time climbing was my last time climbing. usually when i'm out i'm most afraid on belay. i watch and worry about every gear placement. constantly evaluate and re-evaluate what i can do to minimize a fall. i had a guy deck on me once. it was the first time we ever climbed together. looking up i felt uneasy with every piece of pro. he was too far above his last piece, pumping out, downclimbing because he wanted to drop.... when he let go all of his pieces pulled but one. i worked like hell in those moments to keep the line short without pulling him off and to absorb as much of his energy as i could. he walked away, but it still freaks me out. on a lighter note..... the most afraid i was on the rock was when i wedged my foot behind a flake. getting dark. it wouldn't move. i was so afraid that rescuers were going to have to come up and break the rock to get my foot out! ack!!! then to forever be remembered as the guy that f***ed up "Flakes of Wrath"! all the guide books would say how "it was a nice route before gumby got his foot stuck!" never be able to show my face at a crag again. it's strange, the things you think about.....

I would have to say that my worst fear would be mas-closures of climbing crags. I think something like that happened in Alberta Canada due to insurance laws. The USA is the poster-country for litigation, for better or worse, and I fear that some lawyer is going to convince a court to find land owners libel for climbing related injuries/deaths and all crags on privately owned land will be closed. I guess a second fear would be having a rescue initiated for me. The horror!!! P.S. support the access fund :D

My worst is a tossup between two things. 1. My rappel or toprope anchor collapsing and failing when I weight it. 2. Someone else dying or getting seriosuly hurt because of me.

In order of importance: 1. Having one of my children injured while climbing 2. (Same) and it’s my fault 3. Doing something stupid that injures someone in my party And last… Doing a layback on a flake and the flake decides to detach itself from the rest of the mountain. I once had a reoccurring nightmare about this.
