Leaverbiner, The stuff in Scranton /WB is about 45min to 1 hr north of Frackville; however, Frackville and Pottsville both have some pretty good bouldering. The are huge boulders off the main drag that goes from the mall down to Pottsville. There is some stuff up to around V8 in those woods near there. "Playin Hookey" is one of them. There are lots and lots of easy V0 and moderate routes there also that are tons of fun. As for sport climbs I developed some interesting stuff in a quarry in Frackville not far from the mall. Centrailia has some cool stuff also. Including "Eternal Flame" which is upwards of 5.13. Hopefully we will get a warm day soon. :D ~Rob

To those of you that responded to rokshoxbkr19's call for a PA climbing club, Due to health issues, Eric has asked me to take over duties (temporarily) until he returns to good health. SO...what would you like to get out of a PA climbing club? Gail

I'd be interested in getting to see some of the less well-known climbing areas that PA has to offer, specifically in my area of PA but also in other areas. As well as meeting other people across the state so we can network. K.

Anybody mention the LCC (Lancaster CLimbing Club) or do it just fall apart? I know they usually have a good turnout at adopt a crag day. Ask around you might be able to get a phone number, or else call Reading Rocks, i know they wereworking together pretty closely.

In reply to: Hey everyone, I live in York PA and I was hoping to get a new group of climbers together. I know there is the PAC, but I am not huge on paying money to be part of a group or on the politics associated with that group. So I was just hoping to start getting together on a regular basis with other climbers from PA or MD or wherever. I have a cool bouldering wall in my Apt. and my other partner has a nice one in his house. I climb all over and am willing to put anyone up any time. I just wanna chill in a relaxed atmosphere with other climbers and whatnot. So, what do you think? We could plan road trips, watch vids, encourage each other, cause mischief. whatever  . so you wanna get alll the bennies, yet not give back???

Gail why don't you all put your efforts into the PAC??? or the access fund i don't understand many of you know that we all get together regularly to climb and have a very close knit group here in pa but at some point you need to give it back i love a party MORE than you, LOL! the PAC needs your help!! to all of you who think everyone here is against organizations like the pac. not everyone here is trying to be a leach to the climbing community. just because someone doesn't want to donate to pac or the access fund does not mean they just want to reap the benefits. many of us would be willing to volunteer our time to hep clean up climbing areas and other similar things. but i know i personally cant afford to support the pac or access fund financially right now. however i would gladly volunteer my time to help out. the pac and access fund are both great organizations and someday ill donate. right now I am just looking for some people to climb with till i go into the air force in 5 months. just remember some of us are broke college kids who can barley afford to eat

In reply to: I would to see this club go around to different crags and clean them up a bit. (Emmaus!) I'm all for helping with a cleanup day at the crags in the northeast. It's a great idea and needs to be done.. When the weather gets a little better we should organize a cleanup at all the local crags... just show up to the one(s) near you and meet the climbers that are in your area...

MAKE A DIFFERENCE Anne, You know that I am all for the different Pa organazations. If I knew how to get involved with them I would. Right now money is tight. I wish I could send my share of money to the Pa organazations because I want to see Pa climbing at its best. Since I can not afford it I feel that I can at least voulenteer my time in cleaning up crags and things in that nature. If I were to send my share of money to PAC or w/e other organazations, what would my money be used for? How much does it all cost? If someone could send me a link to the PAC site (if there is one), thatd be great.

How about getting some stickers if someone joins? Surely they only cost a buck or two.

Based on what I am reading in the thread, it sounds like people want more of a loose social organization than any type of philanthropic entity. A group of climbers who can call on each other for climbing partners, beta, weekend trips etc. With occasional voluntary efforts (joint with PAC perhaps) to clean up crags etc. Am I reading this correctly? If so, there are organizational logistics that might make contact between members much easier. I am leaving for Potrero Chico on Saturday for a week. I work on the "administrivia" upon my return. Please let me know if I have interrpreted the intent/spirit correctly. Gail

Gail, you hit it on the head. That is exactly why I started this thread. It seems there are others who want the same. Thanks again.

If someone could send me a link to the PAC site (if there is one), thatd be great. If you donate to the PAC what does your money go to? We have one primary expense and that is keeping the Governor Stable boulder field open to climbing. In addition, for your donation you will receive the privilege to climb there for the next year. And that's for less money than a month's membership at most climbing gyms. We are looking to expand our role in the climbing community, but you need to remember we a re new and rather small organization (for now)! If you don't want to simply donate/purchase a membership, why not enter our annual competition at Governor Stable scheduled for March 27? It costs slightly more than the membership, and it includes access to the boulders for the year. Plus, you'll get hang out with a bunch of cool cats get loads of freebies and have a shot at all kinds of prizes. Believe me, we treat our competitors WAY better than most competitions do! cheers Josh
