I am in my final year at university and for my disseratation I am doing a study on whether instructor and Phys ed teachers are qualifed enough to judge the risk that they take with pupils i.e Under18's If you know of anything which may be a help can you let me know?? As this disserataion thing is keeping me from climbing and chaining me to books Many thanks To-fat -to-climb

Geez, how many variables are you considering. For example...

1) Instuctor education. Are we talking about your average PE teacher, or we talking about trained, certified, and experienced climbing instructors that happen to be PE teachers?
As an addendum to that - first aid and rescue abilities of the instructor?

2) Are we talking about climbing the wall in the gym, or outdoor excusions?

3) What are the insurance / liability ramifications?

4) Age of students. I'd think there'd be a difference when talking about elementary school vs. high school.

5) I am going to assume all toproping.

Hmmm, the list goes on.
Hope you don't have a page limit on your dissertation!
I'd contact the Guide's Association (I don't know the fancy acronym, but someone will), speak with a number of certified instructors, probably contact Outward Bound, etc... That is if you haven't already.
