A lot of climbers like their shoes to fit REALLY tight for precision on sport routes/boulder problems. With slippers, you can send the climb, yank the shoes off, rest, and throw them back on again in a realtively short amount of time without having to fool with laces or velcro.

Yeah, probably the only advantage is the ease of putting them on and taking them off. Aside from that, I can't think of anything. Although laces, velcro, or slippers, as long as it fits well, I don't mind either one over the other.

Here is my list of pro's for slippers. They are all I wear:

10. they are sticky and stylish.
9. They make me look like a ballet dancer, and all my dreams as a child have come true.
8. No laces to ever replace or fight with.
7. Laces or eyelets NEVER press into the top of my foot on thin cracks.
6. easy on and off at belays, rather than having to untie.
5. did I already say stylish?
4. with moccasyms, you can design your own shoe with all the available blank space and a sharpie.
3. resole jobs always to seem to be more successful with slippers.
2. easily hop from face to offwidth to thin crack to overhung- they are all purpose for me.
And the Number 1 reason I wear Slippers!?
My 5.10 Ascents are more comfortable than any shoe I own, ballet slippers included!

Jer

...and now...I'm off to Red Rocks to wear some slippers on the strip!

The biggest advantage of slippers, especially if you are a beginner, is that they are sensitive and will allow you to feel the holds beneath your feet. This will help you learn good footwork.

"I can climb 513. I mostly climb in the gym but do some outside. I climbin a lot of comps."

This is a pretty sad question to ask for someone who "climbs" 5.13. I climb 5.11 and know more then you do about slippers. Your contridicting yourself buddy!

Note, I have't done personal testing on this, but I've read this and heard it before. It doesn't mean it's true, but I have a feeling it is. If someone would like to correct me on this[in a none-flaming manner] I'd be more then happy to hear it.

What hasn't been listed is this.

Slippers are normally sized down agressively, which makes your toes bend down. With your toes bent downward like this, you are gripping with your toes. Gripping with your toes uses your calf muscle, which is obviously very strong. This helps hold you onto the rock.

Codey, what shoes do you wear now?

I have a pair of scarpa slippers but I don't wear them anymore. Could'nt stand how they started to twist on my feet when I was on hard climbs. The only thing was good about them was being able to put them on quick.

But then I found Zens. Velcro is good!

I have to agree with nikegirl. I love my Zens.

It's all about not having to mess with laces when your arms are pumped at the end of a climb
