Can someone help settle a slight debate regarding the Singing Rock "Top Double" and "Top Tour" harness'? These harness' have horizontal belay loops. Is the belay loop the tie in point? Or does one tie in to the waist belt relying on the belay loop as backup in case the waist belt breaks?
PLEASE HELP!!! We've been arguing for weeks!!

Yes, the belay loop is the tie in point on those particular harness. Look at the little diagram inside the waist belt for the instructions. Note how the belay loop has the necessary padding. If you tie in directly around the waist belt, where there is no padding, the rope will rub directly against the structural webbing and the harness won't last as long. Cheers,

I also believe that you should tie in using the belay loop. Francois states the only sensible thing I can think of. If we were supposed to use the harness' belt, then it would be reinforced in someway. Think about it, if they reinforce the belay loop for a smooth carabiner to lock in with, then if there was a rope getting tied in, then it would be reinforced as well. Peace.
