Last spring there were some ocun ropes going for $89, but I think the price has come up.

Edelweiss always has a 10.5, 60 M rope in the $110-120 range,- torrent, anniversary, axis... whatever.

These are good beginner ropes. They aren't $200 ropes because they are heavy, thicker than they are supposed to be, and the sheath gets hairy.

Come to think of it they are good moss1956 ropes. I climb on them, and feel good about it.

Nice thing about a cheap rope: if you are climbing with a cowboy, you don't wince when he takes the third 15 foot dive in 5 minutes. You just smile and take in the rope as he batmans back up to the last bolt he clipped.

You might find the Sterling Bandit 10.2 x 60m on sale for $99 in a few places. I have one and I like it.

My theory is that since the dollar has lost considerable ground to the Euro in the last year the European ropes are getting more expensive. Where were Ocun's made? CZ Rep. or Germany? The Lanex cords from CZ Rep. were going for around $90 but those deals seem to have disappeared.

Can anyone in the industry or perhaps an economist confirm my dollar vs. euro theory?

MEC in canada carries the mammut supernova (10mm, 60m) non-dry, 7 falls, for $139 canadian. I have one and i love it, planning on getting another next season. There's also the Edelrid supercrag 50m for $97, I dont know what its like though.
