Best Hold Starter Kit?

I wanna get a starter kit of holds for my wall that I'm building, but I'm unsure from who'm to buy from. Most of the hold companies I've read about on RC.com have one, but which is the best? OR is it better to get specific sets of holds?

Advice is appreciated :)

Check out Soill. They have some awesome holds. When/IF I ever build a wall I will get most of my holds from them.

i think what scubasnyder meant when he said to buy the holds you don't like is that you probably don't like the holds because you cannot use them and thus need the most work in those areas of weakness. thus you buy what you do not like to climb on at the gym. thats my interpretation, hope im not too off scubasnyder. sounds a good plan to me, at least partially, however i would also get some holds you love so that you can have fun (thas what its all about) and they may also make you more motivated to stick with the wall workout.

Just get slopers and stuff like that. the reason i said holds that you dont like is because those are the holds you most likely have trouble with, so the best thing to do is to get holds like that so you get better with those types of holds.

Don't buy all your holds from the same manufacturer! Get variety and you will not get board. I have a large gym in my house and have holds from just about every manufacturer I have heard of, over 2000 so far.

You might also consider making your own. Once you figure it out it is fun and the holds are cheap. Feel free to PM me if you're interested and I will give you specific instructions on how to do it.

There is a large difference between holds that are difficult to move off, and holds that just suck.

There are plenty of holds out there which are quite dumb and worthless. I don't like them. However, I can pull off them. On the other hand, there are a number, depending on the slope, etc, that I can't pull off. But they're excellent holds.

Just a bit of clarification on the two. . .

Also check out www.metoliusclimbing.com"they have some pretty good jumbo hold packs with good variety. I personally really like their holds. You can get them for as low as $99 for about 36 good holds, with all the hardware. Also as said before, So Ill holds are good. Also check out Ottsix Holds, I really like some of their holds especially their one-off slopers. For more variety, also check out"

I just recieved 3 days ago the inflamtion, decongestion, and the immunity sets from so ill. FREAKIN SWEET. I love them. Whats great about there holds is if you turn them 45 degrees, you have a completely different hold. What cool is you turn it one way, and its a sick sloper, turn it another way and its a jug. I know that a lot of hold companies do this, but so ill excels at this. Also my club got the healing set, which is just......amazing.

What exactly is the So Ill "Herbs" set? Is it mostly foot chips, or just a grab bag? It's a great price, especially for the 50 pack.

I am sure you will get a lot of peoples personal favorites here. I have a lot of different holds on my wall Atomik, Franklin, Metolius, and Cheapholds to name a few. IMHO Atomik is the best deal for a starter kit.

Most starter kits seem to advertise a lot of holds for a relatively small investment. You will only get a few medium and large bolt on holds and a ton of small screw ons. Probably not a great deal for starting out. For variety and cost, it is tough to beat www.atomikclimbingholds.com. When I first bought from them you had to buy $250 to get the wholesale discount (which is significant-I bought 170 holds for about $300 with about
half being bolt ons and many two handers).

Now I believe they give wholesale prices to all web orders. Their product is good quality and don't believe the hype that it is worth paying more for other holds because you can spin them for variety of shapes, last longer, or whatever bs devotees of a particular hold company are pushing.

The only reason I have any other hold on my wall is for variety of shapes. I have about 300+ Atomik holds and needed to branch out to get different shapes. Oh yeah, the kit. Sorry I was rambling. They don't have a kit. Pick out whatever holds you want, and still get a price that should embarass the competition. Like I said tough to beat. If they had every shape and size, I wouldn't get anyone else until someone beat them.

Now you know everything you need to know. No reason to read further posts.
