In reply to: god loves ugly "Lincoln once said, "God must have loved the common people because he made so many of them." Now that might sound fine in print, but you go and call someone common and see just how fast they smack you in the face!" -Brother Dave

In reply to: Members of the opposite sex that are respectable climbers seem much more attractive than they would if I had just seen them on the street or something. We in the running community call this phenomenon "speed goggles".....you see a girl win a race or something, and she automatically is more hot than before. Climbers need a term for it too.....

After climbing, especially gym climbing, I always find myself checking other beautiful "hard-bodied" ladies sending routes I can't even do! As soon as I realize there better than me, I also realize that I'm not "worthy" enough to talk to them unless I'm sending the 5.12+ routes with ease! It's sooo true. I don't even bother to approach sexy female climbers that are good...it's the ones who aren't so good that I work on...heheh  Honestly though, climbing has not changed my perspective at all...NOTHING, I mean NOTHING compares to a downhome cowgirl in tight wranglers :!:

In reply to: I'd have to agree with sharpender & moabbeth...the shaggy haired hippie guys are great!!! The interesting thing is, even before I started climbing, those were the guys that caught my eye (love, LOVE, shaggy hair). Guess I got lucky that I happen to be obssessed with a sport with a more than average ratio of them hangin' around. But ultimately, attraction comes when I can find someone that shares my interest in climbing and the outdoors, otherwise I'd never see them anyway...  Totally agree on the luck that climbers have the highest ratio of hippie guys of any sport. As a former (Grateful) Deadhead, I have a built in fondness for hippie guys. Only climber hippie guys tend to have better bods and smell like good hard-earned body sweat instead of patchouli  ! Ahhhh life is good sometimes....

25 years ago, I ran river trips in the Tetons and on the Colorado river. We used to sing a song that went something like this: “Mary Anne Barns is the queen of all the acrobats She can do the tricks that will give the guys the shizts She can shoot green peas from her fundamental orifice Do a summersault and caught it on her tit. She’s a great big son-of-a-bitch, twice as big as me With the hairs on her ass like the branches on a tree She can hunt, fish, fight, fuck, pull a train and drive a truck. That’s the kind of girl that’s gonna marry me. P.S. 22 years of happily married latter - ya don't want to mess with moma bear!

Yes, my perception of Beauty has changed since I first started climbing, but not only in context of female form.

Of course, back in the day, my perception of beauty used to change consistantly - usually about 2:00 in the morning.

Yes. Sticking with the opposite sex theme, the longer I do this, the wider the category becomes, and the more women I find beautiful. But maybe it has less to do with climbing than it has to do with age, and experience. JV

In reply to: I have noticed over the last year while my upper body was getting more defined that people ( male climbers mostly) would comment about " hey, great back muscles....or great triceps. I always was in decent shape, but as my muscles have become more defined, climber guys are commenting. My female non climber friends think I'm crazy for climbing, but what do they know, they are non climbers :) Great back? Great triceps? What about your flexibility!?!? (Sorry... I ran across the picture and I just had to comment.)
