i'd name my routes "One," and then "Two," and then "Three," and sequentially on and on, all across the country and around the globe, so that when i become the super uber climbing stud that i know i'm destined to be, others might follow in my footsteps and try to repeat the same life long tick list that will span decades, up to "Nine Thousand Eighty-Nine" or whatever, and inadvertently spawning endless controversies about whether doing them out of order is in the spirit of Sean

it depends on the route, what happened when you climbed it-bolted it...I mean the name should remind something.

I prefer not to name my routes. I just don't believe in labeling people or rocks. Once labled, all potential opportunites diminish.

Real reason I don't believe in labeling...I'm no good at climbing and the yosemite decimal system shows me up every time.

Recently got back from Peru, and I typically read a lot of fiction/non-fiction from the places where I travel. As a result, I've been reading a lot about the Incas.

The Incas revered mountains and stone, right, so I'd really love it if someone would put up a whole Inca Wall and then tell me where it is, so I can climb there. Here are the requirements for a wall worthy of Inca homage:

- be PARTICULARLY beautiful rock. As in the rock itself must be stunning to behold.

- high up, long approach, and have absolutely breath-taking views. Some believe that the Incas built Machu Picchu as a resort, choosing the location for it's exceptionally stunning view of the mountains

- be EPIC

Route names would be:

Manco Gets the Knife - sharp, finny stuff since Manco's throat was slit

Tupac Amaru's Last Stand - route furthest away from the approach and/or with the worst views since Tupac Amaru fled to the jungle

Ch-ch-ch-chicha - route with a lot of variety since Chicha is a festive drink

Aero Continente Cancelled My Flight Again - climb with studly roof move - if you miss it, you're back to square one. Need I say more?

Infierno - hard and in the sun, named after the jungle town I stayed in - yes it was hell

Inca Coca - long route, for when you need that extra little lift to finish it up

To whomever puts up my Inca Wall, since I am no where near the skill level to do this myself, I can think of many more names. ;)

Cheers,
Jen

While bolting a route, our battery drill fell off and rolled down the hill into thick thorny bushes. We couldn't recover it, and a replacement battery cost us a whopping 800 bucks. We eventuallly named the route "800 bucks down the hill".

2) A dingo ate yo baby!

Nice! That's too good to post here. Someone's gonna steal it for sure.

One day after climbing several routes named after various parts of the female anatomy, a female climber friend of mine (a newbie) decided her revenge would be naming her first route "My Boyfriend's Dick". Imagine a guy having to tell another guy "I climbed My Boyfriend's Dick". The possibilities are endless.

As for me, I don't bother to name my climbs. The gym just takes them down in a couple of months anyway.

Which? "My Boyfriend's Dick"? You can have the name... It'll be years before my friend or I put up anything original. :-)

Don't be so hard, I am sure if you really want to put up a route, a local developer would show you how. Most developers are willing to share the work load if it mean good quality routes to clim/ No you don't have to climb hard, actually, these days, it's easy to put up easy routes than hard ones. Less people are doing it.

Either, I will name a route with the name you gave. I'll send you a copy of the guide. PM me your address.
