Okay Kate, I'm in, Linda's out. Lucky Linda will be in France and Italy that week. I plan to drive up to Smith on March 21 and will have to be back on March 24. Bill

I have been inside just working the campus boards getting strong. Can't wait to get outside. "The only time I feel alive is when I stare death in the face." Hemingway

Hmmmm, tempting. If I'm not in Hueco then I'd love to go to Smith, I still haven't been. Heinous Cling, Chain Reaction, Latest Rage etc are calling! I can dog with the best of 'em :)

Sounds like so much fun & I really want to meet you all! I'm in SoCal & haven't been to Oregon yet. Is it reasonable to do a 3 day wknd? Nearest airport, etc? If I come up as a newbie (to climbing and to Oregon), will I be lost and alone or taken in by the nurturing elders of the climbing tribe?

Well, I don't exactly qualify as a "nurturing elder" (been climbing for 2 years in June), but there will be others there with much more experience than I. :) There will be climbers of varying levels of ability, so there shouldn't be a problem hooking up with folks and learning a few things, or with finding routes that are at your level. Shoot, I went to Smith with a bunch of Rc.commers when I'd only been climbing for a few months, followed my first multi-pitch climb, and was well looked-after the whole time. We're generally a friendly bunch. Closest airport is Bend, but you can probably get cheaper flights into/out of Portland, which is a couple hours away. Makes for a pretty reasonable 3-day weekend, especially since camping at the bivi area is so cheap. PM me if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help. k.

Holy schnikies! I can't believe I didn't see this til today! And I was just telling Alex how I *need* to check out Smith. Divine intervention, I tells you! The bad news is, my SB is the week before. The good news is...

Southwest's got a cheap tix deal right now -- don't know if it applies to your area or not, but it may work out. Obviously I'm going to be at RRR for the first weekend (sorry, guys), but I'll definitely be at Smith for the second. I already told Kel that I could pick her up at the airport if she flew out for that weekend ... same goes for you. After that, the car's full. Cheap camping, great climbing! Then again, if you can't make it that weekend, my floor is always open. ;) k.

alright...so it's not spring break, but i figured this was the right crowd to be looking for a hook up (also, i didn't feel like starting a new thread). i am staying with my in-laws at eagle crest or something like that june 23, 24, and 25. it's a wed, thu, and fri and i have been given the green light to climb. any takers? also, just an f.y.i., if i can convince her, i may have my six year old daughter. if you have a problem with kids, i guess we can ditch her (she's not very fast).   r.r.

I don't want to hijack this post, but I'll be looking to climb in at Smith either the week before or the week after May 22nd (i'm flexible). It seems like most schools will be out around then, and i know there's gotta be someone out there looking to get their S.R. fix.

I'm looking to bring some folk down that way on the 19th to the 24th. How is the camping space situation. I don't want to be turned at the gate. I haven't ever been to Smith so any beta would be appreciated.

I don't imagine the bivy area will be full (it's only one dollar more than paying the three bucks to climb every day), but even if it is, there's another campground nearby that's slightly more primitive (ie it doesn't have showers, but it's free). I've never stayed there, but dynoguy can probably give you a hand out on that one. k.

If you've spent the last of your money on that number 5 camalot and you need a place to camp then the grasslands is the place to stay. I think its real name is skull hollow campground. The only people there are climbers so you will be in good company. Its fun just to walk around and meet climbers from all over. Its about a 5-10 min drive from Smith, I think they have directions on smithrock.com, if not let me know. I have never stayed at the bivy area but I will check it out this trip. I plan on heading up Monday morning and staying til Wensday night. Hope to see you guys out there.
