In reply to: The perfect climbing is who ever I am climbing with on that day. You must be kidding. Not all partners are created equal. I've climbed with people I don't want to ever climb with again, a lot who were fine, but unremarkable, and a very, very, very few who make me hope they'll climb with me forever. Either you've been lucky enough to climb with a string of amazingly outstanding people, or you've never had a really good partner. Rob

The current one is the obvious choice. But for a long term partner you can't have everything. A young one myght provide more energy and motivation, but you can't disregard the learning expirience of climbing in Yosemite with an old salt. Perfection is, as the saying goes, a road, not a destination.

In reply to: Either you've been lucky enough to climb with a string of amazingly outstanding people, or you've never had a really good partner. I have had bad partners, I just choose not to think of them. As long as I am climbing, I am having fun. Some partners are better then others.

The perfect climbing partner can't wait to see if you are ready to hit the road. They have that somewhat cynical, wry outlook on life that spurs them to spew forth harsh commentary and dark humor. Finding a kindred audience in you, they revel in the comfort that comes from being able to speak one's mind. The perfect climbing partner is not concerned about the weather forecast. Come hell or high water, you will be climbing *something.* The perfect climbing partner isn't concerned about who else is going climbing with you; there's more than enough good cheer to go around. The perfect climbing partner climbs damn hard, and laughs at you when you don't, just as it should be. The perfect climbing partner is scared of that lead just like you are, but is having too much fun to show it.

Someone who knows what the word "partner" means. There are too many climbers that "spray" behind their partners back inorder to hear themselves speak. what's up with that. A perfect partner is also a friend. hard to find and harder to keep.

i've got the perfect partner - except that he's more sport, and i'm more trad. we try to be fair, but there are always the conversations of "i like trad more" and "i like sport more". oh well. so as far as sport goes, his toughest lead is my toughest TR. i get to lead the warmup climbs.

My climbing partner is always willing to take over if I start to get sketched or just can't finish. For example last week I knew there was no way I could finish this bottle of Jim Beam and like a true champ my friend stepped up and killed it off.
