Phish, Jack Johnson, and Johny Cash. Throw in some Willie Nelson to switch it up, and you've got enough music for a long road trip to the crag.

While camping or at the crag, I enjoy the sound of nature. No music.

In the gym, whatever is playing works for me.

grateful dead before and after. I like to focus on the climb when I'm pulling down so I don't much care what music is playing in the background.

ugh, too many of you like techno...
anyway, I like everything from Metallica to Beatles to The Offspring to Pink Floyd, it depends what mood I'm in
When I started playing guitar, I got into anything with a cool guitar part, and that broadened my tastes some, that and being in a chorus from 3rd to 8th grade...
how many of u climbers play guitar?

Any type of music can be good to climb to. I personally like a wide variety of artists. Usually while climbing at the gym music varieties range from old country to new rap and everything between.

When I'm on the road to the crag nothing beats a good Pearl Jam cd. I'm a big fan of the Ten album. I think if I could rename Ten I would call it Eleven because on a scale of 1-10 it's an 11. Next would be one of their live concert cds (either Charlotte 2003 or the Seattle 2000).

"I thought the world, Turns out the world thought me." Pearl Jam "Crop Duster"

before doing a climb i find it helps to be psyched up by something fairly hard core, such as iron maiden, offspring or the lost prophets.
during apart from the wind whistling in my ears sweet fa as it kinda pays to concentrate
after somting a little more chilled 8) 8) like dido, the strokes or the thrills

For those of you who are mentioning techno, along with jam bands, you really need to check out the Disco Biscuits. A friend of mine just burned me one of their cds. It is a great mix between the two styles.

Yeah, I play guitar. Been playing since I was 8, been climbing since I was 20. I can get the same "spiritual" experience by playing guitar or climbing. You just kind of get lost in the moment and everything is working for you. What a great experience.

I prefer listening to good old rock and roll mostly of the "indie" persuasion. Or some classic rock ie the beatles or the doors
As for playing guitar, i build them, but don't play them.... does that count??

lately it's been Kid Koala, Jack Johnson, and the Thorns. but also you have to throw in the influences of all of these artists. I keep a large changer filled, so when I train it's "push the random, see what pops up". The guys at the gym like it hard and they like techno. Cool, whatever, when we're out it's anything you can get stoned too!!

Wow, other people that like classical music. Awesome. I wonder how many climbers enjoy symphonies. I myself have season tickets to the symphony, and am usually looking for someone to go (not many of my friends enjoy the symphony).

[quote:40be7bb421="fshizzle"]I'm not making this up, we have a very specific CD that we made specifically for climbing. Apty title PHAT, it contains such classics as The Ho Song (Ludacris), Happy Happy Joy Joy (Ren and Stimpy), The Pirate Song, (Ray Stevens), Ace of Spades (Motorhead), Some really old yodelling cowboys, When the City Sleeps (PJ Harvey), The Good The Bad and The Ugly theme song, Hit me baby one more time - as covered by Type O negative, One Bourbon One Scotch and One Beer (george thourogood), and King of the Road (Roger Miller), Star Wars Gangsta Rap, and a few others I can't remember. Sing alongs are mandatory. You will climb better with the PHAT cd. This is fact.

Or this.

That is hysterical. I must get a copy!
