Having shivered my way up more than my share of Ferguson Canyon scarefests, I feel once again compelled to call foul. Ferguson Canyon ain't no sport climbing area (or at least it didn't use to be). Salt Lake City hardman Merril Bitter once broke a bone (which bone, I don't recall) trying to show that the fixed pins on ... what the heck was the name of that route? ... were solid (which they weren't). If you go to Ferguson Canyon, don't forget the gear, and be careful.

What about Fortress of Solitude in Colorado? I read about it in Rock and Ice, or Climbing, I can't remember. It is a fairly new place, But it has some really hard sport routes. If you pick up the mag read about it.

Try Shelf Road in Caņon City, Colorado. Awesome granite, no crowds (except on the beginer routes) You'll find all the "moderate" sport routes you need. I couldn't vouch for the rest of the world (or even the U.S. for that matter) but i'd say Shelf is one of the best places in CO. If you go, you have to stop by the dairy queen in caņon, its a must!!

The star walls up at Donner Summit in Tahoe have their share of 13s, and even a couple 14s. And if you want harder stuff you can always drive to Cave Rock, although it's not granite.

The fires where closer to the summit of the mountain, by that summhaven town and close to the summit domes. The wind wall and lower areas were way clear of the fire as well at those campsites.

As long as we're naming non granite spots...
Shelf and The Fortress are limestone.

I'm pretty sure Ceuse, Ton Sai, and Rifle would get on the list before those two.

Anyone hear of Banks Lake, Washington? Granite in the midst of a basalt plateau surrounded by water. Tons of sport, trad, and deep water soloing and I will probably get hung for mentioning it here, but just was there two weeks ago and man it is stellar.

Moderate hard 5.13??? Get real dude. Don't be a poser.

The three letters and then the numbers, right under where it says where he's from.
That is all.

I don't think you can say one place is best for every one.
People just like different types of sport climbing multi pich, Close to the car, Far from you car , there are lots of things to think about.

All in all J-tree has to be at the top of the list some where.

Mount Rushmore has some pretty cool granite sport routes. Most are kinda slabby though.

Rushmore climbing is crap. Not even on the top 20 US, let alone the world.

Try Enchanted Rock State Park in Texas. Maybe not the best in the world, but a really outstanding place to crag. Cool scenery and great stone...bouldering, trad, and sport on granite domes. Plenty of moderate routes and enough stout stuff to keep the hardmen (and women) smiling.

Cheers!
