I'm going to be in State College, PA this weekend, and I was wondering where's a good place to top-rope within a couple hours' drive of there. I'm looking for 5.8 to 5.11-ish climbs. Any help is appreciated!

Bellefonte quarry and Donation are probably the two best places. I’d recommend Bellefonte because it has lots of routes and fun cracks. Check out the routes database for more info.

Pat.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I'm trying to get a sense of how reliable the access is to Bellefonte. Any thoughts? Donation sounds good as a backup.

The access to Bellefonte is reliable. I have yet to meet anyone that has been kicked out or fined. It is a good place to climb, but after all is said and done, it's still private property. Just be courteous to anyone you meet and carry out some trash when you're through climbing.

Almost forgot, if you go to Donation look for a college group climbing either day this weekend. I'm helping lead a Penn State Outing club course out there. Stop by and say hello.

if you go to bellefont DONT park at the sub shop, they tow. =(

there is some easy way to get to the wall through a residential neighborhood but i dont know how to drive there, i always hike in from the powder coating factory.

Id go with you if i were in town but im living abroad this year. have fun though, there are some good climbs!

Hey, going to penn state main this weekend, wondering if i could get some directions to either hunter or bellefonte quarry for some bouldering. Which one would be best for bouldering?

Hunter's is WAY better for bouldering, but directions are tricky.

hey guys

i was at main last weekend and i was talking to the guys at the gear shop there, forget the name, appalachain somehting maybe. Anyway, they said that access at the quarry is exremely sensitive right now. They even had a printed flyer type card explaining the access issue. I did not read it, but it might be something you want to check out. Sorry I can not give better details, but at least its a heads up
