Hey, John,

This sounds really engaging. No promises, but I've always wanted to travel to Alaska. Any chance for alpine/glacier travel/mountaineering, or are y'all interested in vertical rock mostly?

Cheers!
Skibs

Micah might take you up on that. ;) I personally ammore into rock at the moment, since that's what all my gear is for, and since we'll be a large group of people, and most likely won't all get there or leave at the same time. :)

you guys should check out the snowbird wall and glacier, or hike up to the bomber glacier. the wall is a great multi-pitch climb, and the glaciers are awesome

In an interest to keep this going, I'm gonna say I like the dates of June 24th - July 5th. Question though, is there really enough climbs or other things to do to keep us occuppied for 10 days? Also what is the weather like that time of year up there, rainwise? Think we'll get rained out at all?

<=glen=>

Hmm, sorry I missed your post before. There's tons of climbing up there. Should be way more than enough to keep us busy. When we feel like doing something else, there's always hiking, playing in mine shafts or the boulder pile caves, or even driving out to my house to just hang out, take showers, and get online for a day. :D It will most likely be a relatively small group, so we can kinda take it day by day and do what we feel like. Also, you wouldn't have to be there the whole ten days. Last year, I was the only one who actually was, cause others had jobs, lives, and a broken ankle.

As for weather, last year it rained some, and was sunny some. As I said before, there's tons of stuff to do besides climbing, so even the rainy days were fun. I believe it was more sunny than rainy though. Best to be prepared, cause it definately can get wet, and the temps will be in the cooler range unless it's bright and sunny.

Let me put it this way, If I'm driving the 6000 miles to Alaska  , I'll definetly be there for a solid 2 weeks. Of course I'll have some stops along the way, ie the valley, smith rocks, some squamish. But for the Alaskan leg of my summer trip I'll probably be leaving from LA around the beginning of June, working my way up. But we'll see. I have to get through this semester first! Either way I think this'll be a great little trip, can't wait to get up there and meet ya'll. Keep crankin to then.

Hmmm, something came up at the end of June/begining of July for me. :( Just a possibility at the moment, but I may be heading to the Phillipines then for a few weeks. I think we'll still have to wait a bit before setting concrete dates, unless someone else wants to jump in and take on the organizing so you all can have fun while I'm away. ;)

Anyone got any other dates that they would prefer?

Actually, mid to late July would look a little better for myself. I'll keep checking to see what ya'll end up doing.

It's shirtless weather. It must be summer.

My dad just bought a truck, so now I've got a ride to hatchers for the summer. This should be fun! :D

Have you been up Arch Angel road yet this year? I was up there two weeks ago and there was two feet of snow at the first gate. I will be going up there again sometime this week to see if the road is clear of snow.

John is right...I did go up Archangel on Saturday and the road was mostly clear and dry (with the exception of a few muddy and patchy snow sections) up to about 1 to 1.5 miles past the Reed Lakes TH. There was still about a foot of snow on the road past there, so I give it another 2 weeks before it's ready to drive on if we continue to have warm dry weather.

I have a couple of pics if anyone is interested in seeing...not worthy of posting on the site.

Well, I'm not going to be able to make it again this year - I'm going to be down south (minnesota) interning for IBM. Good for this "career" thing that everyone keeps talking about, and really not so bad for my climbing as it sounds like there's as much climbing in minnesota as there is around fairbanks. oh well, maybe next year for me...

It seems pretty likely that I will be spending about 11 weeks in Crows Nest Cabins up in Denali. I'll be there from may through the end of july 2005. I'll be working through the week most of the time, but would love to do as much climbing and meet as much people as possible. Never done ice, but am rearing to go, any takers/possibilities/tips/plans etc?
