window's XP is uber gay. What's with all those stupid "help" pop ups? It can't do much more then windows 98 can, and it's at least twice as slow.
Stuff keep disappearing too!! I downloaded the google toolbar, but everytime I restart my machine it disappears from IE, but the file is still on my hard disk.

As a Windoze programmer, I spend alot of my day developing applications for XP/2000. In my computer labs, we stuck with 2000 for a long time because it gave us the environment we needed to run our apps. XP is really designed for home-users, like your grandma who doesn't know how to click "Start." (I was just over at mine yesterday.) That having been said, XP does alot of stuff for the average user that 2000 doesn't : that's the point. Granny Smith doesn't know how to install a cable modem, format a hard drive, and she has trouble even checking her email. Hell, she'll forget how to get on the internet if the "E" dissapears (which is why its in so many different places.)
For folks who know a bit about computing, there's no reason to upgrade from 2000 if you don't like XP. If you do upgrade to XP, get XP Professional, not Home Edition.
I personally am starting to like XP, because it has delayed-load DLLs. That makes it run faster, and saves me the headache of installing 50 different DLLs along with my apps.

winXP is pretty good but it is a mega memory hog. Get a good computer first.
Second option: Madrake linux. www.mandrakelinux.com Easiest linux to learn. Basically windows on a linux box. Pretty rad.

Come on!!!!!! itīs not Windows XP that sucks, it Microsoft and all its software!!!!!, I started using Microsoft 15 years ago, MS-DOS was very good, when Windows came, it was fancy and good looking, but wiuld give some problems, and every version of Windows has been worse!!!!, get out of the hole, use something better...
I think the problem with Microsoft is that it is for beginners... it will allert the user of everithing... thatīs annoyng, also it trys to make the life easier by guessing what the user is trying to do and that makes my life misaerable... I CAN THINK BY MY SELF!!!!!!!
I decided to change plataform from Microsoft (Windows) to something else when I was been certified as a MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) I was one exam away of becoming MCSE (Microsoft Certifiec Systems Engineer) but as I go deeper into into it I noticed that IT SUCKS!!!!!
Now I use Linux, I donīt have to worried about viruses, I can almos always do what I want, not bad at all, if you dont like UNIX thare is also MAC with pretty much the same advantages.

you can turn the help alerts off you know. and for the google tool bar disappearing what you have to do to get it back (at least on my comp) is click view, then toolbars, and you should be able to click google... hey, with all ur help pop ups are u sure that wasn't on one of them????

One of my biggest internet pet peves is people who type with iNsANe CaPiToL LeTtEr UsAgE. It takes 8 times as long to type like that, and it makes what you write look like total chicken scratch.

Nope, that's why it's so weird...it's nowhere in my brower.
when you go Ctrl + Alt + Delete to close a frozen program, how the hell do you close the Ctrl Alt Delete window?

:roll: :roll: maybe you didn't install it properly.... well you can close out of task manager various ways, file exit, the cancel button... you can even turn off your computer from it when everything is frozen... if it won't close probably means your comp. is getting old and you need to get a new one... that would be my guess... :roll: AND you are supposed to get a new comp. every 2 years for it to work best which i happen to find very useful when my comp. is acting up is to get a new one.

There is no "x" or cancel button. Just "end" "Switch task" and something else.

Hmmm, had Win 98...it sucked. Now I have Win millenium, it really sucks too. Friend of mine has xp, dude is always complaining, guess it sucks too. Another friend is with Mac, Wow, talk about user friendly, the freakin' program manager would probably take half the space on my disk. It's like either a computer for dumb 6 year olds, or professional programmers and graphic designers. It sucks big time too.
Come to think of it, computers suck. Sorry for the old sentimentality, but I wish I could have lived in a world before computers, without ever having known them, cause now that I do know and use them, of course I can't function without them. I mean I'd probably be reading a novel or something right now, instead of melting my brain in front of the screen, multitasking.
