Try soaking it in water to loosen up the webbing a bit. thewater won't hurt it- just let it dry before using the webbing again.

Next time try using a clove hitch instead of an 8. It will be much easier to untie.

I use pliers, carefully. Works without problems so far, but it still kinda makes me wonder. :?

Use the hammer. Tap the knot while turning it around and around. Don't smash the webbing, just tap and loosen it.

If you are on a climb with no hammer and need to get a knot loose, you can swing it against the rock.

slackline joe wrote
"use two biners in the actual clove hitch - so when you're done you can actually pry the knot apart with the 2nd biner fairly easily. Works very well."

Sailors use a very rounded, smooth spike. (Often foiund as an extra on a sailing pocket knife) You (carefully) work in the point and then can pry the knot loose. I know it sounds scary but with care there will no damage.

Seriously, folks, all too complicated...

Place it on a rock. GENTLY put your heel onto it and rock over it smoothly, back and forth. The knot will come right out.

If you are rough, you can fray the webbing over time. However, I've done this numerous times with zero damage. Works like a charm.
