I was doing some bouldering yesterday and took a nasty little fall. My ankle is pretty puffy today. Any Idea to help with a fast recovery? It isn't broken. Thanks

In reply to: I was doing some bouldering yesterday and took a nasty little fall. My ankle is pretty puffy today. Any Idea to help with a fast recovery? It isn't broken. Thanks Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation..give it a few days for the swelling to reduce. BTW how do you know it is not broken? hope that helps

Definitely go to the doctor. I fell and hurt my ankle in October...yes of 2003...and didn't go to the doc. That was the most stupid mistake I've made, almost 6 months have passed and it still hurts me. I went to the doctor a few weeks ago after tweaking it again and he told me no running, no climbing, no working out, and NO CHACOS! Well, I tried to follow his orders but have found myself slacking...I use an ankle brace and try to take it easy when I do other things...but no fun wearing an ankle brace in climbing shoes. If you don't go to the doc...then just RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.) Take it easy and hope it gets better. Also, take some anti-inflamatories twice a day.

I tweaked my ankle really badly about 5 weeks ago. I thought it was broken, but after an hour, realized it wasn't, so I didn't go to the doc. I used RICE, Rest Ice Compression Elevation. After 2 weeks, it was still swollen, and looked bad. I talked with a friend who is a nurse and he informed me to continue with RICE, but to also take 2 ibuproferen in the morning and evening to help with the swelling. It worked wonders. It still bothers me once in a while, but I was climbing 3 weeks after the injury.
