Either grading, or something that compares sport/bouldering/trad climbing. So you could make a super spray thread by saying that the v-scale is WAY better than that crappy YDS. Steve

In reply to: Overwhelming jealousy of my superior ability in all aspects of climbing. Oh yeah, looks like every one forgot about that one. I wonder why....

I think it is the ethics question. In all respects, when to bootie, respect for other climbers, stuff like that generally starts the long flame wars.

Could it be anything BUT grades? The thread about the new V16, which seems to be what inspired the OP, is one of the most soaked-down threads in recent memory...

Try to do a quick (select: documentation, report, story, FYI) of some epic (select: rescue, trip, event, confrontation, brake-job) where the (select: climbers, boulders, sport enthusists, mountain bikers, joggers, noobs) were doing something like ( select: bouldering, climbing, teaching, trad climbing, sport bouldering, having pizza), where these people( select: barely whipped, managed to surcome, luckily forgotten, struggled against, overcame, beat) all odds and got out safely. Throw in some (select: heresay, comments, newreports, article, gear review) that some ( select: rescuer's, paramedics, police, firemen, rangers, skiers, clown, ) had an opinion about, that ( affected, changed the course, was part of, mattered very little to) the event. Be sure not to get first hand information, but gather rumor from someones, buddy's girlfriend who knows a guy that had a beer lately with someone who is sure there were there at the time. But don't mention(select: your source, quote, timeframe, what you were wearing) Mix in your (select: opinions, fact, comments, bias remarks) so as to offend ( select: sport, trad, alpine, ice, mountaineering, gender, tree-hugging) types of people. In the final analysis be sure to ( select: falsely accuse, blame, question, throw down, reject, demoralize, tease,) some aspect of climbing that would ( make fun of, ridicule, insult, demean) some minor aspect of the sport. Be sure to include some ( bad ratings, first ascents, number of bolts, age of gear, color of the sky, loose holds) that you remember was there last time you were personally there. Be sure to throw in some analogy such as behavior from these ( select: authority types, climbers, felons, pets, bolters, hikers, tourons, gas attendents, guys, girls, parents) remined you of when you last ate bad ( select: enchalidia, fish taco, anchove pizza, pack leftovers, tree bark, bad pork, sour butter, axle grease), which not only gave you ( gas, runs, trots, insight into the V ratings) but also left you with a (select: serious bad taste in your mouth, desire to vote republican, ability to find your gear, want to leave the forums). Which was so profound everyone will think you are nuts. And be sure to tell everyone to have a nice day and climb safe. ---Escale.
