Alright, I got the option of either a Bittersweet single-wide pad or a Mammut crashpad. The Mammut is an inch thicker, and will cost me $120, as opposed to the Bittersweet which is $100. If anyone knows much about these two pads, and can tell me which I should go for, help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Go for the Bittersweet... if you want to bottom out every time you land on it. If you get the Bittersweet, never do a problem where you might land on anything besides your feet because you can still get really hurt. Go for the Bittersweet.. if you want all the stitching to unravel... if you're never going to do a problem tallerr than 6 feet... if you want straps sewn on crooked so you tip over when you're wearing the pad on your back. Okay, I lied. Don't go for the Bittersweet. They SUCK. Just about the only positive side is that they're so soft (read: flimsy) that they're comfortable to sleep on. Meg

I don't have either...I have the Franklin Dropzone...but I have been talking with the NEW owner of BitterSweet (clifee) and he said some of the stigmas he is trying to overcome is workmanship and customer service with the products. He knows there was problems in the past, and he is wroking on correcting all of them with the new ownership/location. You can contact Cliff at info@bsweetclimb.com for more info.... http://www.bittersweetclimbing.com/

Dear Unhappy Meg, I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with the Bittersweet Crash Pad. I am the new Bittersweet owner and am working hard to make changes for the better, so you won't hurt your little tush. Here are some of the new changes: Thicker, denser foam 1680 D Ballistics Nylon T-69 Nylon thread new smoother buckle design Attacking Bittersweet is like attacking me personally, as I sit here weeping, with a shotgun to my head ......... KA-POWWWW!!!!! Good bye cruel world! Love, Cliff Farrington Owner of the NEW Bittersweet

i got the xl bittersweet a few months ago, the sewing along the seam fell apart on the first use. it is a piece of crap. however, they are sending me a new "improved" one and letting me keep the other one too. so thats not all that bad i guess.

I have a Bittersweet single wide, had it for a year. After much use/abuse my pad seams to be free of all defects. As for the pad thickness, some problems just require more than one pad to be totaly safe. But who ever said bouldering was suposed to be totally safe? The BS gives good coverage area, a pocket, adjustable strap system(to acomadate a pack), and metal buckles. I am just as satisfied now as when I first reviewed it for RC.com. Franklin Dropzone is another good pad with denser foam it your worried about getting a bruised bottom or such. Just bear in mind it is heavier.

Just bought the bittersweet single fold at the PBB. Got a great deal on it and love it. I have bouldered with the metolius XXL, and the ElePhat pad previously and I see no real difference so far. I tore a ligament about 2 months ago now, and recently highballed a boulder, took a fall and didnt really feel it, even in my bad ankle. I guess I must of gotten the newer ones, but the guys were nice at the PBB and great pad for the money.

The new versions of the Bittersweet pads rock....The foam is a good bit thicker/ much denser, and new 1680 denier ballistics material (along with nylon stitching) makes it a much nicer product, with a great price point. Cliff is doing a heck of a job trying to turn this company around- its nice to see a manufacturer that cares about his end product more than making a quik buck. I am currently doing sales/product development for Bittersweet, so I care too..... feel free to respond with suggestions.... Fred
