(I'm lightin' up the boards now)

I want to take a sport lead course fairly soon. Has anyone had experience with the courses offered at the Toronto gyms?

i personally haven't, but from what i've seen and from talking to climbers at both gyms, at oasis it's easier to get appointments, and the teachers are better teachers.

again, i know nothing of TCA.

No knowledge of Joe Rockheads or the TCA, but my roomate took a lead course from the Oasis earlier this year. Seems like it's fairly comprehensive and he liked the instructor (Erica). You probably can't go wrong with any of the gyms.

For those north of Toronto, Of Rock and Chalk in Newmarket offers an indoor lead course from time to time. I just completed the 3 evening session and feel that Arron, the instructor, taught me what I need to know to lead climb/belay with confidence and avoid any epics.

Thanks for the 411 everybody. I will pass on my report of the experience to keep the information rolling.

35 min drive from Downtown there is Gravity in Hamilton. I took my there, and from what i've seen there is great transferability between Joe Rockhead's and Gravity in that respect.

The only I've heard about the gravity course is the waiting list. I've been on it for a few weeks now, its usually 4 to 6 weeks long. But the gym has a good atmosphere and really knowledgable staff. I could have taken the course alot faster in town but I much prefer gravity.

The gravity course isn't a one day thing either, he'll take you through everything that you can think of gradually over time. I think (but I may be wrong) that the course is around 4 sessions?
