I’m looking for a device for roped solo climbing in an alpine/winter scenario. I’ve been using the Silent Partner for some time and it works very well, but I’ve read that if it’s wet or icy the clutch might not engage. So which of the two devices works best in the mentioned conditions? Will the modified Grigri lock in an inverted fall without a chest harness? Are there any other devices or methods I should consider? Thank you for any serious replies

something like a Yates Rocker would probably be superior to either device for winter soloing. I have used a modified grigri for solo-TR'ing ice columns before, but that's because I was a jackass who didn't know what he was getting himself into. If meltwater had refrozen into the device I would have been hosed. Not that I'm any less of a jackass nowadays, I just choose to express it differently ;-)
