So this question sometimes comes up in paddling circles as a debate around the campfire with a few beers. What is your best idea for a Climber vehicle? Obviously keep it realistic (ie: not everyone can afford Humvees or the space shuttle). I'm thinking either a Toyota Turdcell, er I mean, Tercel 4wd wagon, or a 1989 (or older) Chevy cargo van. Both would be relativley cheap to pick up used, and be cheap ish to insure. Also either one would have its strengths for the long road trips, the Tercel would be better on petrol, whilst you could live in the Van. Any ideas?

we've talked about this over and over again but I just want to put in my two cents... http://www.earthroamer.com/ it's expensive! $150,000 but you get tax breaks like... alternative fuel vehicle 2nd home tax credit and write it off as business expenses also, it's miles above the sportsmobile (no offense intended)

I had two. An old mini-van that I took all of the back seats out of which gave room for two to lay fully extended with three feet to spare for gear and a 1979 Chevy K-10 (fulltime 4WD) on 38" tires, near 400HP, that got me ANYWHERE if I need it to. Oh, my 300ZX was cool. Didn't hold much (2 seater), but it got me there pretty fast if I wanted.

my brother in law and i sometimes use his lamborghini diablo vt as our crag car. small trunk forces the 'fast and light' approach, very comfortable and fun on road trips. dismal gas millage and gawkers get a little old after awhile. every now and then we like to emphasize the 'sport' in SUV.

In reply to: Go diesel, you save mads money... Not here. Only about 8 cents per gallon and considering our car has a 16 gallon tank, I'm not going to b*tch about a mere $1.28 a fill up or approximately $25.60 a year.
