I hope you mean "impression" like "good impression so you can make new friends/partners" and you don't mean "impress them."
When interacting with other climbers, make sure your focus is on fun--not competition, not how cool you are, just fun. If you're out there to have fun, everyone else will know that and appreciate it.

Man, if you mean to 'impress' others with climbing abilities etc, then I couldn't care less, Im not out to impress anyone, however..

If you mean to create a good impression in people as in friendship then I just go about being myself. Be honest to yourself and others then you can't go wrong.

Does honesty = good?
Depends on the person Im interacting with as to whether they interpret honesty as a 'good' thing.

Don't use a rope. That way, when you fall, you'll make a good impression - on the ground.

If you want to make an impression, fall from a nice 100 ft climb.. possibly you'll make a deep impression.

Be humble. I'm always most impressed by the guy who never sprays or spouts excessive beta, but is instead friendly even though he flashes 13s. I'm sure we've all met at least one of those "I just sent my first 13a I am the bomb diggity yo, let me show you how to do everything and speak to you like you're 4 years old because I climb harder than you and OMG I'm so badass dude" type people and that is definately not the impression you want to make.
When it boils down to it, no-one cares how hard you climb, but if they think you're a 'cool dude' then they can still be impressed with your abilities.

Take off all your cloths and go about your business like normal. It works for me.

I did this once on a road trip in a car full of people. While everyone's attention was on a crag we were passing by on the side of the road I striped naked. It took a few minutes before anyone noticed, but when they did an impression was definitly made.

As you're walking back to the parking lot or trailhead mention that the only downside of your job as a beer delivery person is having to drive that damn truck loaded with frosty malted beverages to the crag.

Every time I hear some blow-hard spouting off at a crag, like he/she is better, more skilled or more knowledgable than everyone else, I write them off as being totally insecure.

I'm most impressed by climbers who are soft-spoken, modest and happy to help out fellow climbers. I'm also impressed by climbers who practice low-impact climbing (i.e. don't leave garbage behind, don't trample the vegitation, respect access privelages, etc.)

That said, don't spend too much of your energy TRYING to impress people. If you're courteous and work hard to improve your climbing skills, people will be impressed. And if they're not, they can go get stuffed.

The quickest way I have found to make new friends is to hand out big wall tips.

I just love the look on someone's face when I help them solve a problem they've been struggling with, and they say,

"Oh MAN! I can't BELIEVE it was that simple!"

Or, 'impression' as in 'imprint in the ground' for that matter.

Just be yourself. All climbers are generally keen for a conversation about the latest boulder problem, or discussing certain moves.

Well.. maculated way is will SURE leave an impact.

Me.. i'd rather climb then talk. Let them do the judging.

THen again everytime i meet someone on the wall beside me climbing hard while i overtake him/her, especially if he/her is on top and i'm leading.

I'll stop, look him/her in the eyes and say "HEy... how's you hanging?"

I would say that if you want to make your impression through talking, why not talk about something other then climbing? just a though...A good climber's climbing talks for itself...most everything else is just bs. thats my 2cts
