goin to Russelville, Ak. for 4 1/2 months on a job, am seeking any info on sport or trad climbing in NW region of state, preferably with camping nearby.

Just moved to OK myself. You can get online and check out Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. The site is stellar. There is even a guide book on the site for the place with 200+ sport/trad routes listed. I am from CO and that place is great. All one pitch stuff, but there are some long routes that require a 60 for getting back down. Go there. Easy access and tons of camping around there. :righton:

There is some trad or sport some east of the NW Arkansas corner. I think there is some - you'll just have to look. I used to live there but now I am in CO. :) Wish you luck my friend - talk to you soon.

Sam's Throne area is good for trad, check out the route data base. Some friends and I are probably going to HCR this Sun.

Russellville's not too bad of a town, I live there (but go to school up in Batesville), great climbing less than an hour away at Sam's Throne and my personal favorite Horseshoe Canyon, Jasper is one kick ass town (not really but I pretty much live there during the summer teaching climbing at the Boy Scout camp there). I go to Horseshoe as many times as I can, absolutly love it! And Rendezvous at HCR is comming up, definitely don't miss that! Make sure to take a frizbe. And about 10 minutes away across the river from Russellville is a place called Dardenelle Rock, go check that out.
Being from Long Beach you're going to freak out when you get to a thing called a DRY County.

I'm a HUGE fan of Horseshoe Canyon Ranch... great sport climbing on absolutely solid sandstone. I've heard Sam's Throne is great, but never had a chance to get out there... HCR is great though, and last time I checked you can get a season pass for $50, and that'd be real cheap if you stayed for any length of time. Best of luck.

Well, there is no real reason for me to reply to this, everyone has pretty much said the areas closest to Russellville. I need the posts to add a pic, lol. Anyways, If you are in the fayetteville area, there are some great bouldering areas around Lake Weddington. Have fun in the ozarks! I can't think of any other place to live. (then again, I don't get out much, besides climbing in NWA)

yea arkansas climbing is a lot of fun... HCR has a lot of fun routes i was blown away by how many they actually had...sams has some great trad routes, one of my favorites is poisin ivy it is only a 5.7 but it is a great dihedral climb...have fun in arkansas bro the outdoor rec. is wonderful out there!
