The shisha, eh? That's funny. I had a girlfriend who went to the Peace Corp in Jordan and came back with a hookah, which I somehow acquired over the years. I still have some shisha (vacuum sealed) waiting for some good times. Email me when ya'll are in the area and we can enjoy some.

Cortez and the surrounding area is quite beautiful with a number things to do than climbing. Fly-fishing is great, mountain biking is good, several Indian ruins area close-by (Mesa Verde, Chaco...etc) close-by bouldering by the airport and check out the Silver Bean for your coffee fix. I like that part of the state, it seems like you can climb/boulder year round. Last time I there I went to a new bouldering area that was high on a ridge overlooking the beautiful Dolores River.

In reply to: Might I ask what in the sam hell you're moving to dolores for? OOPS!! I confused Dolores with Gateway(the dolores river flows through it). I spent about 2 weeks fighting a big wild fire based out of gateway, and I thought it was a weird little redneck town. Never been to (or through) Dolores. One area to check out is called sewnemup mesa...tons of sandstone first ascent's to be done. Welcome to colorado!! josh

In reply to: You mean to tell me that we have to give up Erica and Ivan to Colorado--and all we get in return is a lousy Reno? I think we got screwed. Curt Reno is supposed to keep the large rock on the hole they threw you in. So far he seems to be doing a piss poor job! Erica and Ivan: You were supposed to throw the rattlesnake into Curt's hole before you left. Looks like you were asleep at the wheel as well.

Ophir Wall is not far, plus plenty of sport climbing near the falls at the end of the Telluride Valley. Naturita has some great bouldering, and there are plenty of second rate areas around. Look for the new routes in Paradox Valley!!! Sick climbing on beautiful wingate. INdian Creek is the best bet, just over 2 hours from you.

You don't use the hot coal method of keeping the pipe lit, do you? That always struck me as a bit harsh. Good thing we invented the Bic fireplace wand.

hmmm, Flagstaff? I do like Flag. How's the weather these days? I'm most keen on the Forks. Edit: definitely use the coal; it's the OG method.

Well, it IS Colorado, and for this, I am jealous. I have toyed with the idea of moving to Boulder after I graduate (we already have the Sube, a sense of superiority over all the little people, and a retarded purebred dog) but that would require me to actually, um, finish school. Good luck!!

hillary - you can only move to boulder if you plan to climb with me and further initate me into that strange unroped and short-pitched climbing that we did last time you were here.

Word to the coal method. My bowl burns for an hour or two before it dies. How do you use the wand? Thanks for the luck Hillary! Anyone from AZ is always welcome to come up and check the place out. It's only an ambitious drive from Phoneix (a little more ambitious for you Hillary ;)) Thanks for the other suggestions as well! I'm sure we'll be checking them all out. Madmax~ Check out the Flag weather for this weekend. Any threat there was of rain is gone. It is going to be B-E-A-yootiful! http://www.weather.com/...her/monthly/USAZ0068

SW Colorado and the San Juans are my favorite place ever. Great skiing, climbing, mt. biking, fishing, kayaking, blahblahblahblah, everything. Durango has an awesome blues bar downtown. Mesa Verde is truly astounding. The best thing about that area--- Few crowds of people. Much unlike SoCal.

I would highly recomend Unaweep Canyon (Grand Junction) for bouldering. endless problems. I would be happy to show you around the area, if you want, just PM me. You could also easily take a day trip to Big Bend in Moab. Some of the sickest bouldering I have ever done. fun stuff.

It'll be almost November before we close. What time of year is it no good to climb (too coold/snow) around there? hosebeats~ Thanks for the heads up. I am really stoked to get into kayaking now too. What is the name of the blues bar?

I'm not sure, but I think that my guide book said that the Unaweep season ends in oct./nov., but it also said that summer climbing was nearly impossible, and I have been there all summer, so go figure. D

This is Colorado, you can climb here year round. As long as it is near 50 degrees and in the sun, you're fine.

You should be really stoked. You just moved to the best place in the world. (In my very biased opinion.) There is limitless climbing with limitless diversity. It is not all right in front of your face but really, that is what makes it so special. Not a lot of waiting to get on routes in this area. (Indian Creek and Caselton Tower excepted.) And the climbing scene is really alive these days. WELCOME.

For climbing info in the Telluride and "West End" areas, check out my website: http://www.charliefowler.com/climbing.html Included is info about the Falls Walls and Bear Creek near Telluride. Out West, there's info on Clay Creek, Naturita, Paradox Valley (lots of options), Sewemup Mesa, 16Z and Big Gypsum Valley. I hope this helps, and enjoy your new home! cheers, Charlie

SWEET Erica! Everyone has already given my suggestions. But let me add another vote for Unaweep. I've only been there twice but really enjoyed myself both times. Fantastic rock. Welcome to CO! Look me up when you get here. T

Charlie F.-Bob D'Antonio here. Aren't you a little too old to be hanging out on the internet? :D Hope you are doing well and life is good. Drop me a line or let's get out when you come to Boulder.
