Has anyone else noticed an increase of copperheads in the Gunks over the past couple of years? I saw two on the carrage path as I was walking out in the dark a couple of nights ago. One was rather agressive and came after us. I have also seen three black racers (big ones). Some type of preditor seems to be either slacking off or moving out of the territory.

It does seem like there are more Copperheads in the Gunks lately, over the last 10 years or so, I would say. At least I started seeing more of them over the last ten years. An aggressive Copperhead is very unusual, though--I have only seen one that was as you described. For the most part, they are docile and you actually have to grab one or step on one to be bitten.
