Tracy, sorry I can't camp; but if you're still headed to shelf this weekend and need a partner I might go. I know, not a very solid commitment. :P What the hell, I don't know where I want to go yet. :roll: I'm not sure what my wrist can handle as of yet and I might make a better belay slave; my dominant hand is uninjured.

Tracy,
Do the Culp-Bossier, fun climbing and great position combine to make it one of the best alpine routes around. Study your route description a bit before hand as route finding is not as easy as one would like. The crux pitch, P3 the way I do it, stretches on for a bit before moving back to the left onto a ledge system. Don't get suckered up the right side of the prow of the butress above. Move left a bit, or off the left edge of the ledge system at the end of the crux pitch, which should put you just left of the prow of the second butress and onto some really spectacular terrain. Have a great climb!

Hallets is not the best place for the aspiring 5.7 alpine leader. The routes can be somewhat runout and route finding can be difficult even for those with more experience.
Not that hard to find yourself 20 feet out from your last piece and wondering what now.
On a different note. Out at Lost Creek today with Kcrag. Did El Supremo (11b) with the (12) start. The weather was beautiful, the trees are starting to change and the early morning air had a feel of briskness to it. Fall is almost here and a good time for the Platte.

I'm "on call" this weekend and thus unable to climb outside until after 5p. If you can't find outdoor partners this weekend, I'll probably go to RnJ North at some point during the day. You're welcome to join me if you wish.

"On call" means 1.5 hours away from my airplane - thus the need to stay in the city(ARGHH!!!)

Lost Creek Wilderness area down by Mcgurdy Park? Did that area get burned pretty bad?
We've decided on Culp Bossier as choice # 1 and The Great Dihedral as choice # 2. I've heard about all the route finding issues on Hallets. I'll study the routes as best as I can before we head up. If I was still an aspiring 5.7 alpine leader, rest assured that I'd stick to something less challenging. But my head is screwed back on again and running out 5.7 alpine is not an issue. But yeah, I am concerned about the route finding and the weather. Sunday is calling for scattered T-storms. That summit is NOT where I want to be during a storm. My partner and I will make due. Between the 2 of us, I think we'll be just fine.
Are the busses still running out there? At what point during the year can we drive up to Bear Lake?
Wannabe. . .I'll be climbing at Shelf on Saturday. Bring your son. Aus and Alec will be there. Playmates for them = more climbing for us parents. We're camping at Sand Gulch. I imagine we'll probably head up to climb somewhere around 8:30. I get cell service at the camp ground. I believe you still have my number. Give me a call and I can give you full details from our camp. But as an FYI, if your wrist is still hurting, Shelf may not be the best place for you. I have no problems with mine, nor have I had to endure surgery but after last weekend, mine were pretty sore.

Tracy, A small note on Culp-Bossier. The only place I got into route finding trouble was at the top of the (P3?) dihedral. I should have pulled out to the right to make my way to the huge ledge. Instead I went left toward a red sling. I thought it was a fixed anchor. It ended up being a crappy nut that someone had rapped off of heading toward .9 climbing. If it's still there avoid that area. We were up there early in the season and it may be gone now though.

Good time at R&J last night!! Thanks Kyle for the 'lead clinic'. I really need to practice clipping. It sure makes it hard when I spend 1/2 the time trying to get the rope clipped in the first draw 10 feet off the ground.

Good times had by all, my three day meeting for Mon - Wed of next week got moved to mid Oct. Anybody want to climb Monday afternoon or Tuesday night in the gym? May rope up with shory one of those days.
Tendon was sore this morning, but I don't think the tweek was a bad as originally suspected. The "three finger trick" worked pretty last night will muchos tape. BTW, Steve and Lisa nice work on the moch leads. You are both strong climbers and with a little practice the clipping stuff will come anatural.
Hope to climb again witcha soon,

Kyle - I'm game for some gym climbing next week. I'm still "on call" but lately they haven't been using me as much as I thought they might. Maybe they finally looked at my seniority number? :)
Anyway, I am also off on Wed/Thu of next week. Planning a bivy at Chasm lake but I'm open to new and exciting experiences if someone else has the same day off. I'd be game to attempt a 14'er if anyone is so inclined? If not, then I'll just take pictures of the lovely Diamond from my bivy and enjoy the day. :)
