I haven't stopped since I started (3 years ago). I used to climb at least 3 times a week; now I'm a weekend warrior.

I haven't taken any breaks longer than 20 days or so in over 3 years.

Although, I started road biking several months back, and it has really whipped me into shape, and helped my climbing.

I'd suggest a different mental approach to your problem. Instead of focusing on the past (and/or future), focus on the present. Enjoy what level you are climbing at right now and appreciate the ability to be able to practice such a great activity. Worrying about grades will take the fun right out of climbing.

I went through kidney stones, then a recovery, then kidney surgery, then a recovery, now a broken wrist, and soon a recovery. Add wintertime and school into that mix and in the past year and a half, I've had probably only 4 or 5 months of semi-consistent climbing.

I've noticed a similarity between rock climbing and martial arts where if you miss a session then you know it, and if you miss two sessions then your friends know it, and if you miss three sessions then the world knows it.

I notice that my tech. is never really lost just gets a little rusty, but my strength and endurance are totally gone.

Build a home wall in your garage. Works great to just maintain or to improve.
