can somebody please explain to me the diffrences between these two tools. from what i can see the alp wing has a rubber grip and a diffrent spike, i'm wondering if there is anything else.

I just picked up a pair of Light Wings, and from what I can tell they are both pretty similar. The handle is rubberless as you mentioned, however they do wiegh in magically 1/2 pound lighter then the Alp Wing.
Really pleased with them by the way.

thanks. yeah, they do seam to be magiclly lighter and i'm trying to figure out why. unfortunatly here in the midwest its kind of unusual for somebody to stock any tools, let alone a couple of pairs so i can compair them side by side.
i'm actually thinking the lack of a rubber grip is likely a good thing, i would probobly rather tape them with grip tape as needed.

I use a marmot glove with a synthetic handle, and havent needed a rubber grip. However, I have used grip tape in the past, and find that it tends to clog with snow. There are some cycling bar tape alternatives that might work nice tho.

well if thats it, than i think i'm leaning towards saving a couple of bucks and a half pound of mass by going with the lite wings.
my only major concern with going with the lite vs. the alp is adapting a horn in the future. it seams to me that this would be a direct bolt-on with the alp wing as one of the fasteners runs through the spike. the absence of a spike on the lite wing may make this difficult to impossable depending on how much material i would have to work with in modifying the horn.
so, as i presently see it, here is my conundrum;
alp wing pluses:
easily adaptable to a horn
a real spike
alp wing minuses:
heavier
slightly more expensive
lite wing pluses:
lighter
slightly cheaper
lite wing minuses:
horn may not be compatable
the jury is still out on how i feel about the rubber grip thingy. on one hand it may feel great and thats the end of the story, on the other hand it may be better to use grip tape so i can customise the shaft to my feel.
