I am hoping that there are some cavers out there. I have been an avid climber and backpacker for about 3 years now and I currently reside in Atlanta. I have been caving a couple of times and really would like to get into it more, I am also very interested in getting into cave rappelling. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that is an experienced caver that could show me the ropes. If there is anyone that is interested in taking a trip and sharing your knowledge please feel free to drop me a line. Thanks

Hi dougers,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the site, then let me be the first to flame you that this is rockclimbing.com, not caving.com.
Actually I do cave and there are several others here that cave, so you may just get lucky and connect with one. Cavers tend to be a pretty secretive lot because the cave resources are so limited and fragile. Georgia has some really nice vertical pits so you are in a good place. Hook up with a club or the NSS? (National Speliological Society), they have training programs and agreements with landowners. I'll try to hunt up a link or two for you. The risks and difficulty with rescue are so much higher in technical caving than with climbing that I'd really recomend that you don't try it on your own. Hope you can hook up with someone, it really is fun.

Thanks for the reply, I have checked out a few of the clubs online and it looks like the safest and best way to go about it. Thanks for the link

Hi again,

Here are a couple of links you might want to look at. Some of my favorite sites are now shut down but the cavediggers site has enough links to keep you busy all day.
NSS website
http://www.caves.org/
Site with lots of articles and links
http://www.cavediggers.com/
Great cave photography site http://www.goodearthgraphics.com/virtcave.html

Hope these help.
