Has anyone else noticed that wearing tight climbing shoes makes your feet smaller? I just boght a pair of hiing boots that are a full siz smaller than the last pair I owned. I used to wear 11 and a half. My new hiking boot is size 10 1/2 and my new climbing shoes are 9 1/2. My old climbing shoes are 10.

That could be bad. I've always been a size 3 anyway.

I started wearing Anasazi's in, I think, either US11.5 or 11 two years ago...and I am now buying V10s and other aggressive shoes in either a US9.5 or 10. I think I've accepted trading 'painful' for 'performance', but I have also noticed that I seem to need smaller street shoes. I do wonder what the long-run effects will be...probably not terribly positive. Oh well, I'm sure I can get some rad prosthetic feet.

I think what happens is you just start preferring your shoes smaller. Ever notice how ridiculously roomy your sneakers feel after you've been wearing your climbing shoes all day? I started buying smaller runners since i started climbing, but i don't think my feet shrunk.

start running long distances, that'll spread those puppies out. Unless of course you have a few pounds to lose, then your feet will get smaller too. similarly, i find if i wear sandals too much in summer, climbing shoes seem just that much tougher to get on

Hmm, I am currently in Kyoto. All the Geisha I see where sandles called Zori. They are like high-healed flip flops. I think you are confusing cultures. It was Chinese women who bound their feet (up until around WWII). Sorry to get technical... Cheers, john

I run at least 20 miles a week. The boots I bought last night were Vasques, and I have heard that they size big. But all old my shoes feel too big.

Yeah, I have a pair of cross country shoes that are 12's. and i just bought a new pair of hiking boots that are 10 1/2. I also think it has something to do with each shoe. Because i bought two shoes at the same time a while back and they were 1 1/2 size diff. I think each shoe co makes them a little different

I think some companies make shoes smaller and bigger than others... and i think i'm starting to like my shoes tighter. I had ingrown toe nails which caused me to like loose shoes for a while... but i'm better now. Well enough about my toes... KEEP CLIMBING

It's possible that since the shoes are tight, that the toes are more bent than before. My shoe size has not changed

I've noticed the same with my feet. I already have small feet for a guy (7.5 before I started climbing) but they SEEM to be getting smaller. I started buying climbing shoes at size 7 and that shoe size hasn't gotten any smaller, but my street shoes have gone from around 7.5 to 6.5. Possible fators are the different ways companies size their shoes and a change in my preference of how tight I like my shoes. Some days I put on my size 7 Scarpa reflexs and they hurt like new. I'm not very worried.

Each manufacturer make their shoes differently and even the same man. will have variations to their size. Consder a company that makes thier shoes in multiple coutries like Brazil, Mexico, Portugal or Indonesia. They may speck a shoe the same but the machines/labor practices will vary. The North Face boots I have are a 10. The Vasque boots are 11. I always look for narrow shoes and don't think there are any the SAME in width.
