Description
Pack your gear and a just-in-case sleeping bag in The North Face Terra 40 Backpack. The North Faces suspension system adjusts to fit your torso length, and an open-air mesh trampoline across the back panel keeps your back cool. If an overnight stay is part of your plan, zip your sleeping bag into the lower bag compartment. Pull on the Terra 40 Backpack and tighten the hip-belt to transfer some weight off your shoulders. As the day heats up, take off a layer and stash it in the front stretch pocket. When you stop to enjoy the view, secure your trekking poles in the pole-loops so they dont tumble off the mountain.

This was smallest pack I could fit all my gear into. With 100oz of water inside it still holds a 70m rope, harness, shoes, helmet, a dozen draws, a set of nuts and cams, ~50' of webbing and slings, headlamp, first aid, jacket and food. The two sets of gear loops are well placed. The belt strap is comfortable even under heavy load. The pack could be improved with an aluminum stay for support and load-lifter straps. Also, the plastic clip for holding the hydration bladder broke while loading the pack, but the remaining strap is actually better for use with a CamelBak bladder.
March 2006 Update: One of the seams ripped open after less than 6 months of moderate use. I've upgraded to a more robust BD pack and lowered my rating on this from a 4 to a 3.

Awesome sport pack. Holds a rope, a dozen draws, biners, slings, harness, chalk bag, shoes, lunch and room for a little more. Pockets on the side are perfect for Nalgenes or you can use the internal pocket for hydration pouch. Comfort and features are what sold me on this pack over others of similar size. By features I don't just mean whistles and bells, but useful, well-thought-out pockets and straps. Feels very sturdy...I've been using it for six months and it still looks new. Only complaint is the front zippered pocket is hard to zip up. Give this pack a look.
