Vertigo 40

I have overloaded this pack for a year now and it still looks close to new. Everything still works and works well. The zippers, the loops, the daisey, the straps, and the bag all work great after much torture.

I'll have to agree with all the other reviews. I'm surprised at how much thought was put into designing this pack. For all the features that are built into thie back I can't believe how cheap it is. Because of the rope tarp I don't use my rope bag anymore. You can also strap the rope on the outside using the compression straps to hold it in. The hydration sleeve is a little large for my two liter nalgene, but it hasn't caused a problem so far. There is also a small clip on the shoulder strap to hold your hydration tube so it's not flopping all over the place.

This pack is awesome. Inside the main compartment, the gear loops, daisy chain and slit pockets keep all my gear so organized it's downright pretty. The pack is hydration-compatible, or you can just clip a Nalgene onto one of the gear loops on the hip belt. The integrated (and detachable) rope tarp quickly disappears into its own little custom pocket inside the pack. This keeps the dirt off all your other goodies.

What really surprised me most about this pack was the suspension system. While this is billed as a "day at the crag" pack, it has more of a "week at the crag" suspension system. The suspension is completely and easily adjustable on the run, and the mesh backpanel keeps you dry in summer. I have never felt wobbly while scrambling in this pack, and I've never felt sore after using it.

The pack is well-constructed from quality, durable materials. Not to mention all the little things: color-coded rope tie-ins in the pack and on the tarp, emergency whistle built into the chest harness buckle, inside zippered access to the front pocket. If I had designed my own pack for a weekend at the crag, this pack would be twice as good as that. I guess that says it all.

Really, I couldn't ask for anything more in a pack. It's just the right size, and has all kinds of wonderful features including rope tarp, gear loops, hydration sleeve, etc. It packs everything for a day at the crag, and it's easily taken the abuse I've thrown at it. Osprey is not the most well-known pack company, but I'd say they're one of the best.

This pack is incredible. I loaded it up with my rope, harness, shoes, tons of gear, a 2.4L Platypus water bottle, first aid kit, food, and other essentials. It took it all in and still had room for more! The rope tarp is of the finest quality. The compression straps will secure smaller loads for a fine carry. I loaded it up with 35 pounds and it carried like 15.

The internal gear loops and daisy chain make it a snap to organize everything. Lay the pack on the ground, roll out the tarp -- your rope's ready to go and you've got all your gear neatly organized and readily accessible. This is the ultimate crag pack!
