Review 4 out of 5 stars

Review by: mgoodro, 2005-06-28

I recently picked up my first Aliens, Green thru Red. As with any new gear I was testing it out in a variety of placements in shallow and flared cracks, pockets, etc. The Aliens held in shallow cracks and pockets, even when bounced on, where I fully expected them to fail. Where possible I compared them to my power cams (which wouldn't fit in many of the placements). The Aliens held in many places where the power cam would pull when weighted. Additionally, I was able to get solid placements in pockets to shallow or uneven for a tri-cam. My only complaint is the floppy cable in the larger sizes.

I have the three smallest sizes. black, blue, & green. I wouldn't climb with out them, they freakin rule.

When you first pick them up they look kind of goofy compared to alot of cams. But it ends there. Great finger crack protection. They seem to fit just perfectly and the super flexible stem keeps them right where you put them. My tax return this year will be spent on as many Aliens as I can get.

Just got blue through red! At first I was slightly unimpressed by the units. After taking them out this all changed. They definitelly lived up to the hype. Very technically constructed yet simple. I love the non anodised lobes, lack of gimicky stuff like range-finder -etc. Leaves the real buisness up to the climber - good judgement. Also doesn't distract from the novelty of the units. Nothing flashy - but maybe the name. I guess there's a gray one now too that the fills the gap between yellow and red!?

my favorite small cams, these just cant be beat. the internal spring and small headwidths are great, but the thing i love most about them is the trigger set up. The trigger bar doesnt twist or turn at all when grabbed, the control sheath goes over edges very well, and the set up doesnt tangle at all. i currently have 8 of these black to purple, and know im going to buy some more in the future. Many people dont like the larger sizes, but i dig em all up to the purple. They are my primary set of mini cams. my only complaints are the lack of cam stops, and the soft nature of the cam lobes, but these are only minor. aliens deserve a 6. Oh and a new size between red and orange would be nice.
