Review 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: cbare, 2004-09-18

The golden standard for intended application (static rope work and rescue applications) Has little use outside of indended application. A great descending device for beginning rappellers. The ears prevent girth hitching of the rope and allow the user to quickly perform a temporary tie off (especially useful in high angle rescue). Does have a tendancy to twist the rope, as do all figure 8 type devices.

Good for rescue, not much use in the crag world.

Awsome figure 8, can be used to belay, rappel or even for use on retrieving gear on one pitch climbs or rescue.

This is great, just beware that with the larger opening you will have a hard time stopping with standard size ropes. You can do it, but wrap it around your butt ... no joke. It was my first 8 on my first rapel ever and I was unprepared for this and unable to stop myself I slid all the way down nearly burning through my glove. But once you know that, it is wonderful.

Good device. Big enough to handle a double 1/2 inch rope without too much fuss. It's not as heavy as it looks either.
