I purchased it because an 8 w/ears is manditory for the SAR team I'm on. Don't use it unless I have to because we also use ladders. I like the weight because it feels safe and indistructable but hauling it up the mt. is a chore. Nice and big holes for double wraping.

I use it when rappelling with a heavy pack or a full rack of photo equipment , It can be locked fast and easy with a rap of the rappelling rope around the top thus freeing my hands to work with the camera then released easily even with a heavy load of extra gear.
