I personally own a pair of these shoes and I am very happy with them. the heel cup really sucks in yourfoot and give you great heel-hooking abilities. Also the they edge very well and the ability to use the toe on the smallest of nubbins compares to the Muira/Anasazi Velcro. All around Great shoe.

I have taken a couple test falls on this pad and found that it was better than landing on the ground, but not by much. It is so thick because it has only two layers of foam (instead of a normal open-cell foam and closed-cell foam alternating layers)and needs all of that padding for it's meager shock absorbtion. I would recommend the climaxe crash pad because eventhough it is about half as thick it is much more cofortable to land on and you can buy two of those for the price of one of the mad-pads

I got this pad a climaxe for 79.95 and i could have bought 2 for 120.00. It is the exact same thing as the metolius crash pad but with a different cover and you can buy 2 for less than the price of 1
