Shelley on the beginning moves of Treiber's Deception. Some consider the step across move to be the crux on this route. It is possible to climb the face below and to the right at 5.9. But that wouldn't be any fun...

Holdplease2 on Tom's ThumbHoldplease2 solo aiding on Hot Line, Tom's Thumb in the McDowells. The line goes free at 5.10b (sandbag), but it also makes for a cool clean aid practice line with a thin, left leaning crack, some offwidth, some really thin stuff, and a traverse. A little bit of everything in about 100 feet.

1st pitch of Renaissance DirectClassic route in the McDowell Mountains. The first pitch consists of face climbing, a dihedral, a roof, and a crack. The second pitch is an easy face climb. This is a picture of Dale on the first pitch taken by Sheryl.

Fun slab climbing on Ego TripOne of the many moderates on Sven Slab. This is a fun bolted slab with 3 or 4 bolts in 85' of climbing. A 60 meter rope will allow you to top rope all the routes on this slab. A two bolt 5.5 second pitch awaits for those that choose. Photo taken of Dale by Sheryl.

Climbing the slab...In the picture is looks like there is very little to hold onto. It is not deceiving. Sven slab has mostly indents/dishes and a few crimps.

RappingMy partner Joe rapping off Tom's Thumb. I'm sitting on top. Treibers Deception is a tough 5.7 lead in my opinion (Hence the deception portion of the name/although that is actually supposed to reference the wiggy step-over). A great view of Phoenix! A fun day.

H to the izz-OV to the izz-A - what else can I say about, dude, I gets bizzay! Here is a very old school but stellar 5.7 in the McDowells. I would say this is one of the MUST DO 5.7s in the state! Route is actually a bit steeper than it looks in this pic and the smearing is rather polished on the slab. I know the sky is over-exposed but my Photoshop skills aren't bitchin' enough yet to render it appropriately. March 2007.

TR on Ego TripTop roping ego trip (5.7R). I would not have felt confident to lead this route, the run out is severe and there are multiple times where you could deck. But fun route on TR.
