5 out of 5 stars East Face

First outdoor lead climb of that length. Much different than the 30 footers in the gym. Found out a 70 meter rope is needed to rap off the North side. You can rap off the Southeast back to the beginning with a 60 meter rope. whew!

4 out of 5 stars Praying Monk-East Face

pretty smooth sailing, good for beginners. almost impossible to hear the belay when you're near the top though, had to yell and hope the echoes bounce off the canyon walls a quarter mile away

double 50's for long rappel off the deep end, or a single 60 just makes it for rappelling down the way you came.

DO NOT tie into the farthest bomber from the direction of your rappel at the top. the rope will get stuck, and you WILL have troubles.

4 out of 5 stars cool climb

first outdoor lead climb was a lot of fun. A great view and fun rappel. I agree that the start is the crux but then it gets gets easier. Just a fun route. Nice anchors up top though my 60m rope seemed just enough to get down. I used 8 draws on the way up, someone mentioned six.

btw - I second the windy at the top and swarm of bees nearby comments

First move is 5.6 after that the whole climb is more like 5.3. Great view at the top and a fun rap.

4 out of 5 stars Great climb

I've climbed this a bunch of times, so adding for posterity.

After scrambling up the 4th class on the far east/north side of the headwall (the first part of it you encounter on the hike up), or climbing up one of the other headwall routes, hike around to the east side (the uphill corner, farthest from headwall). Belay spot and bolted route are obvious. Up to the first bolt is the crux at 5.6, after that is easy fun 5.3 or so on well-bolted conglomorate. Anchor bolts at top, plus a huge bomber ring provided by the AMC (word up AMC). Rap off the southeast side, a 60m rope does just fine (the comment below was for rapping off the northwest side, which is much longer).
