Rock
Trad; one fixed pin protects the roof
|
|
Description:
First climb in a section past Sundance that features a roof system about 15 ft off the deck. Follow a thin crack up to the multi-tiered roof; pull the roof and follow a crack to top out on a wide ledge. A large pine tree on the ledge has slings, rap ring and quick link for anchors, but use a backup. Dixie Cragger rates this classic three-star route at 5.9-plus.

Ascent Note
A great route and a really fun challenge. The roof is a tough nut to crack; the holds are there, but getting your feet up isn't easy. I ended up using my knees, no style points there. The rest of the route is not as difficult, but fairly sustained the whole way. This would be a stiff lead.
