Hang Dog ascent by: j_from_the_307 on 2004-03-26

Ascent Note
Hang-dog/stick clip. Was hoping to find a nice 12a at Vedauwoo to project on. This is not it. 110 ft. of fingernail crimps. I think it can be sent free, but my fingernails don't have that kind of endurance... and I'm not sure how you could train for that. My big toes are still 1/2 numb after 3 days. Did not find it to be an enjoyable route.

Ascent Note
Pretty much unrelenting 9-10a climbing. One of the hardest 10a I've been on because it is so sustained

Ascent Note
Crux is most definately the 4th bolt. Tiny, greasy crimp to another one (12a), then big holds again to the top.

Mad props to Nik for finishing this route on lead after a 15 foot whipper back into the wall. It was the first 10d she'd been up, so why not lead it eh?

Ascent Note
Awesome route. Fun climbing on good holds between ledges. Definately enough to get a sense of vertigo. Great place to learn how to multi-pitch

Ascent Note
Good route on incredibly good holds. Pumpy, but if you know how to jam there are a lot of good rests (kneebar, meat hook, "stonker??? hand jams")

Ascent Note
Very recommended... Crux comes, like always, trying to pull the roof. My favorite part is the hands free rest a few moves before the crux. Took me a good 30 tries or so to stick the fingerlocks on sharp crystals at the end of the crux. Blew it more than a few times here.... have the scars to show for it.

My favorite sport route out at Vedauwoo. Lieback is still the crux for me, not the real crux of moving from the lieback to the face.

Ascent Note
Went up it without ever looking at the topo. Petsfed thought he remembered it to traverse right after the 3rd or 4th pitch. There was a band of poor rock traversing right after the 4th pitch, so we took it. 5.7 my ass... Turns out this was Wide Country, a 10c R and for good reason.

STEEP + LIEBACK IN TIPS CRACK = not for me. Climbed it in the dark to get the anchor down. Looks like an incredibly hard lead.
