Mountaineering boots are designed to hold up against the toughest terrain, therefore these boots are usually taller, stiffer and offer better insulation than regular boots. The added height and stiffness of these boots offer more support around the climber’s foot making them more comfortable on steeper treks.
Many mountaineering boots are also designed with welts molded into the toe and heel of the boot, this allows it to be used with crampons, and the crampons are attached to the boot allowing the climber to pursue steeper terrain.
Insulation is also a very important feature of mountaineering boots as it helps prevent frostbite which is common in extreme cold conditions.
