Good board, stays interesting 5 out of 5 stars

I have been quite happy with this little guy for the past year or so. I will get right out and list the one complaint, and that is how fast it greases up. A toothbrush and some Windex or rubbing alcohol fixes that promptly though. It has jugs for those times that you just want to crank some pullups (and they are pretty ergonomic), and a reasonable set of crimpers. The mini-slopers at the bottom are fun as well. Although I like to stay symmetric in my pull-ups, the interesting middle features allow you to vary things if you like.

I will give this a 2, since I am sure it is not the "worst" board out there, but I am not impressed with it. In fact, I dont really like it at all. This is just my opinion, of course, and it is based on "my" hangboarding needs. You may find otherwise.

First of all I do own this board and have been using it on a disciplined training schedule for about 3 months now, total time. To start, the texture is weak and inconsistent. While my board is somewhat gritty, I picked up a new one in REI just to compare it to another board and the surface was like glass. Literally polished shiny and this was a brand new board. The best hold for building strength is probably the tiny 1 pad sloper/edge things that are under the jugs. These are almost impossible to use due to the texture. I need to take a wire brush to them and chalk after each hanging repetition, and the time it takes to do this seriously clashes with my training method, which involves repeated hangs. Frustrating.

My other main beef is that it doesn't really provide that much long-term variety. I believe that a hangboard should provide you with plenty of difficult holds so that you may work your weaknesses. While this board does have a few tough holds, most of the holds are easily surpassed after a few weeks of serious training. This leaves you with the holds I mentioned under the end jugs, the tiny crimps just to the side of them, the 4 finger edge up high, the monos, the 2 finger pockets, and the pinches/slopers down low. This is only 6 usable holds. While some people will argue that 6 is fine, I feel a board should have more. Furthermore, as I said before, 1 of those holds is almost not even usable, at least in the way I want to use it which requires repeatedly hanging on it. You can "create" more holds by changing your grip (such as only putting 1 pad into the pockets) but in practice it is not very easy to stay consistent doing this, which I feel is necessary to do.

There are other things that are annoying to me too. Due to the design of the board, when you work the mono's, your hands and/or other fingers have a tendency to forcefully rub against the bottom holds. This is very uncomfortable to say the least, and damn painful in its worst forms. The board also lacks a difficult pinch. While it does have a pinch at the bottom of the board, its a big one, and you will get sick of this quickly. I have tried with no luck to "create" another pinch on the board.

I feel that the two huge jugs that are stacked on top of one another in the center of the board are completely useless, unless you are going to work on 1 arm pulling exercises. This board has 3 sets of jugs for a total of 6. I really dont see a reason for this either.

To sum it all up, I think that this board will actually do quite fine if you are new to hangboarding or buying your first board. If you are serious about training/hangbarding and you do start out on this board, I wouldn't be surprised if you are looking for a new one in a few months. If you have some experience on a hangboard, or are looking to replace your old finger torture devices, I would not recommend the Warrior Board. My goal was not to bash this board into oblivion, its just that it really doesn't suit my needs and I found it to be less than adequate.

Living about 10 minutes away from Nicros, I was able to pick up a factory second dirt cheap. I love this board. It's really helping me improve on slopers. Theres a good variety, and with the addition of a few footholds I can get a pretty good range of workouts.
