Le Dauphiné is the central area of the french Alps, with limestone massifs (called forealps or Pré-Alpes) such as Le Vercors and La Chartreuse around the large city of Grenoble, or the famous Céüse, and with higher mountains belonging to the real Alps, such as the famous Massif des Ecrins.
The main city is Grenoble, but Gap or Briançon, or Valence and Sisteron are also cities belonging or bordering this large mountaineous area.
