About San Tan Mtns:

IMPORTANT ACCESS NOTE:

Climbing is NOT permitted within the San Tan Mountain Regional Park and can lead to prosecution.

The San Tan Mtn. Range is located within the Maricopa County Parkland just outside of Queen Creek(the town), Arizona. This little gem of a crag is a mostly shaded cliff that faces east and reaches about 200' in height. Some of the rock is bad, but there are numerous lines of rock that are of genuine quality. There are a few main buttresses and the western most one, called Owl's Head Rock, has seen traditional ascents from previous generations. All the climbing is trad, mostly two pitches on very climber friendly rock just full of holds and pro opportunities. The approach up the steep slope is short (@20-30 min. max) and relatively free of bush, but very steep, bouldery, and loose in spots. The most direct line route from your parking spot straight up to the wall is generally as good as any. Aim for small wall at base covered with bright green lichen where a small ramp gives access.

Directions: From US60 take Ellsworth Rd. south to its end at Hunt Hwy. Turn left on Hunt for about 1 mile and make a right on Thompson (San Tan Reg. Park). Please respect all signs.
